X2 BIOS Build 4978 - Built in FTP
« Reply #195 on: August 23, 2003, 01:30:00 AM »

To the Xecuter Team,

Your work has contributed alot to the scene, but I ask you to try to make BIOSes as small as 256 kb and 512 kb so we other people could enjoy the modding scene inseatd of bering forced to buy the fancy modchips. If you release 1 mb BIOSes it would be great if you could release 256 and 512 version without the fancy stuff as well. Not all of us are dependent of fancy built in XBEs in the BIOSes.

« Reply #197 on: August 23, 2003, 01:55:00 AM »

mmm ok this thread is now pointless - does this forum not have any decent input any more - I count about 10 members who have good input against 300 morons crying about this release being 1MB

I suggest you go back and read my previous post - and for those who can't be bothered:

1) This bios is a preview. it is to show the kind of thing we're currently working on. It is not final. You may notice the words v1.0a alpha on your screen when booting the ftp server. I might also point out all this is in the nfo. So take note - its always a good idea to read notes that come with any software release.

2) If you cant use this bios - use X2 4977. Don't Complain.

3) If you think this feature is pointless - get educated.

4) Troed: yes you are correct, however the purpose of this wasn't just an FTP server - it was to be able to run any xbe - the ftp server code we had just happened to be something small and useful. I hear what you are saying and the input is good. But as you should know reading things like point 1) may help in your opinions of released code in future.

5) Stealth: Don't flatter yourself. We've been talking about embedded XBE all week on #xboxhacker and i've also been sharing ideas with many other forum members. Don't be so impressed as to think I "revealed" that it was an embedded xbe because of you. Point of referance - you can do better - release it don't talk about it.

The entire point of this bios is that we've shown you a completely new door - lets all walk through it and see what happens. The bios scene has gotten so boring and flat - at least we have something new to work for. I'm sure evox, complex et al will also see this as something new and exciting as it actually gives us something worth working on.

PS the last time I looked this was xbox-scene not ps2-scene - comprendez ?

its been posted everywhere dont use on an x2 lite

and it also says in the nfo use at your own risk

and you should never really flash with a brand new bioss if you have no way of recovery

all common sense stuff im sure you'll agree

dont worry tho - it can be fixed - just find someone with a mod and do a hot swap and go back to 4977

to all those talented  coders who whine about not being glorified everytime someone says something they don't like to hear : grow up, we do appreciate the work being done but this is a forum, not the oscars.

Its not about glorification - its about being pissed at pimply 14 yr olds bashing features when:

a) its a world first
cool.gif its in ALPHA PREVIEW stage
c) the only code they know is how to speak klingon

And we also get pissed at wasting our time replying to drivel as opposed to coding - saying that i'm out.

I for one is a happy owner of the Matrix! (Only new generation solder free chip available when i needed a chip) But I've been running X2 bios right from the beginnning and I think you do a great job guys. And I appreciate all the works that is being done that we can take advantage of for free. I cant use the 4978, well I use the 4976.02 instead, I also find no reason to use it, since I am happy with the ftp capabilities of my dash.

And for all you idiots complaining about this release being a 1mb release: Shut up, buy a new modchip or use the features of 4977. I mean, there is no way (I dont think so) advanced code like this could be fitted into a 256k bios, so what should team executer do? Not releasing it at all? No keep up the good job, new features is always welcome (even though I can't use it myself right now wink.gif )

Ok, it has been said, but after i flashed my Lite.... I think as developers you should at least wait with realeasing a version, until it is tested on all Xecuter 2's. And if it is not working on any version, there has to be a big WARNING in the nfo. I think you'll agree also with that.
At least now i can use my X2Pro which is lying around since a while to fix my Lite! :-)
Btw, continue with this great work, you do a great job! Maybe there is some room for improvement in the testing process... ;-)

First off, its an alpha so you should expect there to be problems. Even a Beta will have issues come up. There really is only 1 person to blame, and that would of course be you. You should never load a new bios (especially one thats in its alpha stage) if you have NO WAY of fixing it if something goes wrong. Further more, why would there be a warning if a) its an alpha, they dont know what might happen cool.gif it isnt a final release  c) common sense, thats the best warning.

As for the testing process, errm.. its in it right now, hence why its an alpha.

I think you got me wrong people... I was not flaming anyone. And don't flame on me, please.

Everyone's so happy because of that release, there are no complains about it. Criticism is needed! I'm not a programmer, and i can't build a bios by myself. But every release of X2 bioses made me happy since the newest release. There were great things like hack patch, no DVD check etc. but I wonder wtf is that ftp function needed for if you can you EvoX (or anything else) which has ftp function simply.... better? I'm not so noob as I look for tongue.gif. Wouldn't it be more useful if the bios could boot console with erased EEPROM? Just think what can be useful. I know there are limitations. I know that not everything can be created tongue.gif. I hope the next release is gonna provide some better functions. I know the bioses are for free, but Team Executer earns money on Executer chips. But I don't wanna discuss about anymore.

Anyway, were my ideas fucked? Wouldn't you be happy if some bios have the functions which I mentioned? Damn, people. Don't say team Executer are gods. I loved their job. But be more objective, impartial.

I gave few ideas and I complained for that bios. Was I flaming on anyone?

And have you read the word: "PEACE" at the end of my last post??

If you wanna flame on me more, just don't do that, and don't reply. We (including me) don't like flaming, aren't we?

PEACE!

With the advent of Phoenix BIOS Loader, NOBODY has any right to complain about the size of the BIOS.  What, you can't spare 1MB on your C partition?  It filled up that quickly?  Matrix users CAN use it.  Team Xecuter is NOT forcing people to go out and spend money on "fancy modchips".  All you with 256K cheapmods...guess what?  You can use it, too!  You have no justification to complain about the size of this release.

I'm going to be frank - your ideas were ridiculous after reading your complaints.  You think a built in FTPd is stupid, but you want a full dashboard built into the kernel?  That would make it even larger...and EvoX doesn't ALSO already serve this function?  Also, you want a BIOS that would boot with a blank EEPROM.  Experts correct me, but I would assume the MCPX checks the state of the EEPROM on bootup and not the BIOS....which mean your request would be like asking someone to make a dashboard that would boot with a blank BIOS.

We're only trying to have a genuinely serious discussion, and I'm a bit impatient with people that come in here and whine about the size, whine that they can't put it DIRECTLY on their Fisher-Price Matrix, and whine that this progress isn't enough to satisfy them.  (Everyone who doesn't like this release....try to pick which one you are...it'll be fun).  If someone (somehow) had a justified reason for not liking this release, then I would listen to them and accept their position, but so far everyone's complaints have been unfounded.

Please do not post in this thread if it is just to complain about one of the above.

Call me a bitch or jackass again, but if any BIOS updates are required for future releases Team Xecuter will not really release 512 kb BIOS or 256 anymore or what? Sure we can we use 4977, we are not so stupid! But a small update between 256 and 512 kbyte could also be nice since not everyone are dependent on embedded XBEs. Sure, it´s the decision of the team, but I think it is silly whatever you say.
