If you download the BFM version of it, Phoenix should work with it.

Hm wondering if anyones had this problem.. flashed my x2pro after some delays cause I was an idiot =) Umm, the bios boots fine on my default HD, ftp server works great as well. When I boot it on my new 120gb hd though (noting on it, not even partitioned.. thats what I'm trying to do actually..) it just freezes after the xecuter2 pops under the Xbox logo, regardless if I press a or not. If I turn the chip off error 13 (cant find dashboard, normal problem =P) Anyone else had this tiny problem? =/ I hate my thompson drive.. gotta invest in a 616t one of these days.

A.Z.BEST® <------ Wow, good thing we have another ungrateful whiner with no knowledge of the inner-workings of the Xbox.  It seemed for a while like we were experiencing a shortage.

Thanks for your input, man.  dry.gif

QUOTE (A.Z.BEST® @ Aug 23 2003, 01:19 AM)

So here are my wishes about any new bioses:
- VGA mode and normal mode built in
- FTP mode loads with the dashboard/programm within
- ability to boot choosen dash when pressing some button; for example: when pressing A it boots evoxdash.xbe, when pressing B it boot avalaunch.xbe etc.
- ability to boot console with erased/ fucked EEPROM
- ability to work in debug mode (but that's only a wish biggrin.gif)

How do you think about that? Post your wishes if you're unhappy of that 4978 wink.gif.

PEACE.

instead of making wishes...why don't you get off your ass and work on it.  ungreatful bastard...i'm sick of all these whiners/complainers bitching about stuff they're getting for FREE.  team xecuter aren't forcing you to use this bios...if u don't like it...then don't use it!!  same goes for the emulator programmers...they do all that shit on THEIR own time for NO PROFIT...and there's always some fool complaining about SOME aspect of it.  i have nothing but respect and gratitude to these fine people putting their time into making my xbox the greatest console i've ever owned.

i for one, am very pleased with this release.  i install mods for a bunch of people...and this is gonna make it even easier for me.  and as stated...this is only the begining with much to look forward to.

I would like to clarify my previous statement that seemed to make the scene news circuits.  It perhaps was slightly more negative than I intended.

The fact that xbe's can be embedded in the bios is a great feature for sure, and I didn't mean to downplay that.  I am just rather disappointed that it wasn't a true embedded ftp server solution as was seemingly implied by the nfo.  It's a matter of interpretation I suppose.

Given the time frame since the last xecuter bios release, and the um... sources of information they have to draw upon, a feature like this embedded xbe launching just wasn't the level of development I would expect.  But I didn't intend my statement to be so harsh.

Additionally, it continually amazes me how talented the xecutor folks are at PR spin.  They didn't mention at all that the new bios could launch an embedded xbe in the release.  They only mentioned that they had embedded an ftp server in the bios.  That statement is a bit misleading, and certainly would have been a much grander technological feat if it was fully implemented in the kernel.  Once I brought to light the fact that the ftp server is not a true kernel feature, and rather an embedded xbe, the new statements by ubergeek imply that the xbe launching is the highlight of the new bios, and that the ftp server is secondary.  Here's a quote:

QUOTE
2) this isnt just about an ftp server - its about what possibilities are there now that we can successfully boot xbe's inside the kernel - think about it !

Way to spin guys.

What would be nice is if release groups were more open and honest about their features and their methods.  Let's see some source guys!  Or at least lets have open technical discussions about new features you have added, rather then hiding the details or keeping them a secret.  It can only result in an improvement in the skill sets and knowledge base of the scene as a whole.

This post is more technical,
I noticed something in the kernel image file, kinda by accident. I'm sure you have as well.

DeviceHarddisk0Patition1xbdm.dll

This strictly refers to a Debug box file, as well a little bit after it has the usual debug bios XBOXROM.bin string.

This leads me to beleive that the new 4978 bios is based on a dev bios, no longer based on a retail bios.
BUT as I'm writing this I decided to check other bioses, the 4976.02 and 4977 have the same lines. but evox bioses don't, nor does 4974

What do you think is going ? Mayby some leftover code for future use?
Any useful imput is wanted, please no bashing or such.

Congrats on the new features implemented in the bios.

Only have a matrix so its a no go for me.

Hope any new features (eg new media check bios) will be released in 256k versions excluding the ftp so us folk with matrix's can upgrade.

If not, new chip for me  laugh.gif

NO, you dont 'get it', when you 'made your 256k bios 1mb,' you were just mirroring that bios over 4 times. IT WAS STILL A 256k BIOS.  If the all the physical code in the bios is more than 256k, then you cant 'cut it down' to fit.  Sorry, cant be done.

All right,
I "complained" previously about the usefulness of this bios and  am dumbfounded looking at the horde of replies. First, if this bios can help some guy because he lives on the north pole and can't get his laser beam hot enough to burn a CD then hey, thats' fine. The bios makers can obviously developp whatever  they want and distribute it to whoever needs  it.  If there is a market for rich people that are  stupid enough that they might put their modchip in the oven by mistake, then by all means, go ahead and advertise and sell them a 500$ , 50 mb, gold-plated modchip. But if suddenly the forums fill up of people praising how great an advance these new modchips represent, then it smells of dishonesty. Such dishonesty was particularly obvious when the bios loader came out : way too many people were ferociously opposed to it without reason. One last comment: to all those talented  coders who whine about not being glorified everytime someone says something they don't like to hear : grow up, we do appreciate the work being done but this is a forum, not the oscars.
