X2 BIOS Build 4978 - Built in FTP
« Reply #121 on: August 22, 2003, 12:16:00 PM »

When I modded my friends xbox, I went over to his house with a hard drive that had already been ghosted from my hard drive, but after putting the chip in, I couldn't get a cdrw to boot.  To back up his old saved games we had to use a memory card.  It could only hold about a tenth of the games he had saved.  His xbox sometimes has trouble reading legit games.  I wasn't about to run to the store and buy every brand of cdrw I could find, swap the hard drive 10 times to get everything, or run to my house to get my xbox and put the drive in there.  So instead he lost his saved games.  I think this feature is awsome for those of us that like to do installs for our friends but don't have unlimited free time.

Anyone that is pissed that they didn't release a non ftp version is a frickin idiot.  Would it make you feel that much better if the renamed the 4077 to 4078_noftp, just so that you could say you were still running the latest bios.  Also why should they make a bios for other people's chip.  When they released a 1mb chip, they said it was a feature that would be needed in the future.  Don't hate on them just cause you didn't listen.

I just got it and flashed my X2L with it.

SWEET!!

It blew it out! 3 reboots and a blinking light!

Super job!

Congratulations.  You just flashed a 1024K BIOS to a chip with only 512K banks.  I hope you have an X2 Lite programmer.

I would have thought that it would have worked fine, just set your jumper to boot from the first bank.  I put it on my PRO that has 4x 256k banks.  I dont see why this would be any different.

Or maybe I am just to tired to think......

The Lite has 2 bank options: 512K bank 0, and 512K bank 1.  There's no 256K banks 0 - 3.  There's no 1024K bank.  So what probably happened is that he used EvoX to flash the chip, and it wrote half the BIOS to the first bank and half the BIOS to the second bank.  As anyone could tell you, half a BIOS will frag you.

Okay, I have a Xecuter Lite 2 and I followed the correct stpes in flashing my chip using the OZXFlash Methos (same I did for 4977) and it said the flash was successful, but when I power the unit back on I get the red/green flashing light. I know it was a good flash, but dont understand why I am having these problems. Do I need to get the external programmer to fix this or is there another method to resolving this? Thanks to any information.  JdK

I could be speaking out of turn here (please don't flame me !) but I have built a 1mb bios out of the 256K 4977 bios and it wrote fine to my x2L.  I flashed with evox.  So I dont think a 1mb bios should fail on a X2L

still, I'll hold off flashing with the new one until i'm sure  tongue.gif  wink.gif

That's completely different.  When yours loads a 512K bank, it will find a perfectly valid 256K BIOS that's been mirrored.  However, it's loading an incomplete BIOS in this scenario.

thanks, I guessed there would be some reason for it to work...

So I guess the question to ask is, has anyone flashed there X2L(ite) with this and it worked properly/booted uhh.gif

I guess (now) probably not !!  huh.gif

I have a spare chameleon I think will be getting installed shortly (for X3 Bios)  cool.gif
Am i right in thinking this can be setup to boot from 1024k as a whole file (sorry for n00b question)

rolleyes.gif

I can't connect to the FTP 192.168.10.123.

I have a D-Link DI 604 Router, IP 192.168.10.1, Subnet 255.255.0.0
NIC is 192.168.10.2, Subnet 255.255.0.0, Gateway 192.168.10.1, DNS 192.168.10.1

Have already tried with DHCP without the gateway and DNS. In both cases no connect, not even a ping is possible. Can anybody help me?

Xeero, I got this off a modchip site:

I wonder how many people are going to try and flash their X2L with the 4978 bios and then realize they've frag'd their box?
