so can this be flashed to TSOP or not?

I would like to know the answer to this as well (of course on a v1.0 xbox with 1mb bios).

yes ... it should really not be a problem on a 1mb TSOP.

But I'm not gonna guarantee that ... so don't do it unless you have a backup solution available (modchip).

1) nice to see troed once again posting his drivel about conspiracy theories - you're an entertaining guy - predictable but entertaining all the same.

... and yet I always seem to know what happens, and I've (several times) made you back off when you've made statements that've gone too far.

I guess it's because you knew it's all done with respect. Yes you've given people reason to go for the X-BIT (I don't have much respect for DMS though - yet) - but on the other hand, all sales taken away from cheapmods (1.0-1.2) or flashed boxes (1.3, 256kb) will benefit you all.

Being able to launch XBEs within the bios is cool - but at the moment what you released it's way too bloated. I do feel free to bitch about it since I'm probably one of the more talented coders here myself wink.gif

Agreed about the recommendation to have a means of recover.  But from what I understand, if the d0 is not grounded, the MCPX will pull the full 1024K from the TSOP on a 1.0/1.1 system, so I can say with overwhelming certainty that this BIOS will work on a TSOP flash.  It works on a 1MB Pro, why would it not work with the TSOP?

Ya, but who put the ftp option in the bios?  I have respect for all of the coders but there is only one guy (team) that has done this and a lot that we dont even know about yet.  We owe props to them, not suspicions and accusations.  Thanks Team Xecuter.

While this would in theory drive sales for all 1MB+ mod chips, I think that's more of a byproduct than a goal.

Truthfully, I'd like to see this packed down to 512K.  But if an FTP daemon can't be packed to 256K or less (I truly don't know myself), then I don't know how they'd keep it under 1024K.

4978 eh...FTP client? Nah, think I'll pass for two reasons: 1 - Dont really need it, MxM works great for my FTP needs (It -IS- the fastest xbox prog to FTP for me) and 2 - Only got a matrix modchip so I cant really use a 1024kb bios, heh tongue.gif

Oh it can. I have a TCP/IP-stack I've written together with another guy (commercially) somewhere, and it's extremely small (written for embedded controllers). I also have an FTP implementation somewhere that, although very basic, fulfills most needs. They together weigh in at around 40-50kb if memory serves me correctly.

I don't think Team X-ecuter even tried to write a tiny implementation though, if they did I'm sure they could fit this in a 512Kb BIOS. They have talented coders.

QUOTE (Xeero @ Aug 22 2003, 05:25 PM)

I've owned 3 Thomsons.  1 of them boots ONE type of CD-RW (Imation 650MB - not 700MB).  The other two, one of which is now expired, wouldn't boot ANY CD-RW.

If you had any experience in Xbox modding, you'd know that the pot settings is different in every single drive, and there is no magic CD-RW brand that will work on every Xbox drive.

Umm, I hate to break it to you, but if there's an xbox that doesn't read Maxell CD-RWs burned at 2x, then I haven't found it yet!  (100% successful on about 30 boxes 1.0 - 1.3)

I agree that this feature will be a boon to beginners, but it really doesn't do anything for me except for it's cool factor - and for the possibilities that it opens up in the future.

That's the big key here.  Alot of us don't need an FTPd in the BIOS simply because we've done without it for so long that we have already worked around it.  Who cares?  Is anyone else innovating in the BIOS area?  I don't think so.  I think it's a great step forward and I am thrilled that Team Xecuter released it.

As for all of the people complaining about the size, shut up already!  This is a pre-release simply designed to show off what is possible.  Ideally, all BIOSs would fit in 256k, but if you have to choose between innovation and 256k, innovation wins everytime.

Kudos to Ubergeek and the rest of the team.  Your work is appreciated.

First, off its an ftp SERVER, not a client, but thats an easy typo.
And as for the rest, yes, you have a matrix, so you are SOL even if you wanted to use this bios.
And the thing is, just we go over this EVERY TIME a new bios released.....

If you dont want it, or dont see a purpose in it, then dont use it!  Its as simple as that.

That bios really sucks... What is it? Is there something really to check it out and buy a new chip for it? Aaah, give it a brake, man. Why team Executer didn't build ftp function when booting any program... Wouldn't it be fun to ftp thru the bios when MS Dash (with additional sections) was boot? That bios is just a bios with built in new program :|. I was waiting for some bios that has the VGA mode & the normal TV mode, and with ability to boot with clear/erased EEPROM - that would be useful. Everyony can run EvoX by himself and ftp his console even easier. I think Team Executer loves cash too much sad.gif and they think if they'll release new, bigger bios, we're gonna buy new, bigger modchip (X3). Miserable release, made just to make us buy original Executer 3 chip. That's not the way, guys. Till they'll release something really usefull I will use 4977. My cheapmod is not the main reason why I don't wanna flash that bios even on TSOP. I can buy myself X2 chip if I feel like to do it. I don't want it (that bios), cause there's nothing I haven't seen before. Try harder guys :/.

So here are my wishes about any new bioses:
- VGA mode and normal mode built in
- FTP mode loads with the dashboard/programm within
- ability to boot choosen dash when pressing some button; for example: when pressing A it boots evoxdash.xbe, when pressing B it boot avalaunch.xbe etc.
- ability to boot console with erased/ fucked EEPROM
- ability to work in debug mode (but that's only a wish biggrin.gif)

How do you think about that? Post your wishes if you're unhappy of that 4978 wink.gif.

PEACE.

More pointless rubbish.  Go make your own bios.

This sounds pretty cool - especially for those of us running software-only hacks.  Next time I screw up my dash, I won't have to do a hard drive swap!

Anyone know yet if Phoenix will load this thing?
