X2 BIOS Build 4978 - Built in FTP
« Reply #135 on: August 22, 2003, 12:35:00 PM »

I would love to see this new FTP server have a dhcp assigned ip somehow.
That would be aswome, and easy for those of us who have routers.

That's completely different.  When yours loads a 512K bank, it will find a perfectly valid 256K BIOS that's been mirrored.  However, it's loading an incomplete BIOS in this scenario.

Xeero, I got this off a modchip site:

QUOTE
- 1x 1MB/2x512K BIOS chip capacity

I'd wager that whoever wrote that was thinking about a 1MB image that could be separated into 4 x 256K images, 2 x 512K images, or 2 x 256K + 1 x 512K.  Understand that many people likely made a presumption without having a BIOS release that took up 1MB all by itself.  this is a first.

I've read through 8 pages of comments - thanks

1) nice to see troed once again posting his drivel about conspiracy theories - you're an entertaining guy - predictable but entertaining all the same.

2) this isnt just about an ftp server - its about what possibilities are there now that we can successfully boot xbe's inside the kernel - think about it !

3) we have released a 256k version of this bios - its called X2 4977

4) yes we will continue to develop for those with 256k mods (of course we dont have to - but sure why not we try to do what we can even though most ppl bitch at us for one reason or another)

5) I didnt test this on an x2 lite only a pro - but i cant see why there should be a problem (ill test myself later - can others post details - make sure you boot from BANK 1 and flash with evox not flashx)

6) Yes bios's can now get much bigger - those with 1MB mods will be happy that they can use many more features in the future - those with 256k / 512k mods can still be happy as we made something called X2 4977 for you - if you want to bitch that you cant use the latest features - buy a new mod - doesnt have to be an xecuter I dont care - just get yourself a new mod IF YOU WANT THE NEW FEATURES - if you dont then great !

7) yes we care so much about our sales that we just gave you all a reason to buy the xb-it - there goes another theory.

8) if you cant see how useful having a built in ftp server is - then you are narrow minded to think that newbies dont exist - thsi helps a lot of people. Plus its cool wink.gif

9) remember this is v.01a alpha release - we have many many more ftp functions to add - but it'll be kept within the 1mb size so most of you who have access to a 1mb mod (xecuter, chameleon, pc bioxx etc etc) can use it with no issues - for free i might add.

10) thanks to those who recognise the step forward this is

11) fuck you to those who bitch with nothing of any interest to say. if you can do better - bring it.

Bad Flash on X2Lite I know for sure the jumper was set to 1mb since my last flash with 4977 was a 1MB .bin.
Need help ?external programmer ?where do I get it....I know, I know ..use the search ...but I dont have the patience

I just got it and flashed my X2L with it.

SWEET!!

It blew it out! 3 reboots and a blinking light!

Super job!

Congratulations.  You just flashed a 1024K BIOS to a chip with only 512K banks.  I hope you have an X2 Lite programmer.

I would have thought that it would have worked fine, just set your jumper to boot from the first bank.  I put it on my PRO that has 4x 256k banks.  I dont see why this would be any different.

Or maybe I am just to tired to think......

The Lite has 2 bank options: 512K bank 0, and 512K bank 1.  There's no 256K banks 0 - 3.  There's no 1024K bank.  So what probably happened is that he used EvoX to flash the chip, and it wrote half the BIOS to the first bank and half the BIOS to the second bank.  As anyone could tell you, half a BIOS will frag you.

OK, I asked about flashing the X2.x Lite w. a 256k BIOS in this thread : http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act=ST&f=50&t=93138 and there its said the EvoX rezises the file itself, is that incorrect?

1MB 4977 BIOS isn't a true 1MB BIOS, though, you see?  If the MCPX only downloads half of it....no big deal, because 512K is still more complete because the BIOS code is actually a neat little 256K package.  However, if the MCPX downloads half of 4978, it's an incomplete BIOS.

No, that is correct.  EvoX would write the 256K BIOS across all the entire flash ROM.  However, it will not resize 4978 because it is the same size as the ROM.
