TheSpecialist's HDDHackr v0.82B - Install your own Xbox360 HDD
« Reply #30 on: February 24, 2007, 02:11:00 AM »

As stated in my first post I have tried 2 mainboards with Intel Chipset. The Gigabyte Mainboard has 2 SATA Connectors, the Intel Mainboard 4. I really tried *every* port because I thought something similar like you explained. I have seen that the Bios recognizes the HDD as Master or as Slave depending on which channel I was using.

Here is the requested log from Computer 1 (Gigabyte Mainboard, 2 SATA Connectors)

Hi, I see u have a different Intel chipset than I've tried (I tried the 82801FB, on which everything perfectly works). To find out what's wrong, I have a few questions:

Is the info you've posted above ALL the info it gives ? Mine posts the same, except that after these lines there are more lines, with one of them:

I/O Port   0x0000A800-0x0000A807

As I understand, you don't see this ? Also, did u check both the info under system summary/storage/IDE *AND* system summary/storage/SCSI ?

How did u configure the IDE/SCSI controller in your BIOS ? I have:

configure sata as [Standard IDE]
Onboard IDE operation mode: [Enhanced mode]
Enhanced mode support on [SATA mode]

If you have the same options in your bios, configure them like this. If you have different options, please let me know which they are and what you can select.

And how much IDE cable connectors do u have on your mainboard ? Two or just 1 ?

I'm quite sure I can get the tool working for you, just need a little more info smile.gif

did HDDHackr v0.83 work for you?  Did you try it on the Intel Chipset?

@ woork: I *think* I already know what the problem is: I think you might have 'legacy mode' selected in your SATA settings in your bios right ? If so, don't use legacy mode, the hddhackr won't work with that. You need 'enhanced' mode. I think Intel is the only chipset even supporting legacy mode (not 100% sure though), but just don't use it.

I didn't support legacy mode on purpose, because the hddhackr would then also detect IDE drives and some users might get confused that way and flash the wrong drive. I've stated in the readme file that users should play with the SATA settings in their bios if it didnt work, I'll change that explicitely to NOT use legacy mode, hope that will clear things up.

Thinking of it, maybe it is a good idea to add an extra command line option, in which the user can use legacy mode if he really wants to do that.

Anyway, in short: for version 0.82 and 0.83, make sure that your computer detects the drives as a 'Master' and that you have the SATA mode in your BIOS set to 'enhanced'. I think this should solve your problem, if however you still don't get the drive detected that way, please let me know

I did a bit of research into your particular chipset, I see it doesn't support 'enhanced' mode, only 'legacy mode' and 'Native sub-mode'. I'm 100% sure that legacy mode won't work with the current version, I'm not sure about the 'Native sub mode'. Try that. If it still doesn't work, then use version 0.84 of the tool, that will be released some point next week and will have support for legacy mode.

I am currently at my friends home and I just tried v0.83. The first error is gone but unfortunately there is a new one sad.gif "Fatal Error, the EC sector count was not found in the FW" .

Regarding my Intel Chipset: I will be at home again this evening and I will check up the things you mentioned.

Greetings

I sent the PM to you.  I am not posting it out on the forum in case TheSpecialist does not want it out yet and is waiting for the official release of v0.84.  Let us know how it works for you as well.  The error you are getting is not because of the VIA Chipset.  It has been addressed in this v0.83 release though.
