QUOTE(luthan @ Nov 20 2008, 03:09 PM) *

i know this is a complete noob question but i looked through the forums and i am getting a bit confused.

i have a 20gb original xbox360 hard drive.
i want to buy a 120 gb wd hard drive.
if i use this tool, will i be able to use my newly bought 120 gb drive with all of the 120 gb?  or will it become 20 gb once i copy the hddss.bin file from my original 20gb drive?

The latter part of your question is the result you'll have. The only thing the 20 gb drive is good for is
1. a backup image for forcing all partitions to your 120gb drive,
2. an enclosure for your new 120GB drive.
(3. A decent external hard drive for music if you put it in an usb enclosure.) (you might as well get some use from it)

You need a legitimate 120GB hd hdss.bin in order to get the full sized drive.

Do you have to do anything to the old xbox 20gb to use it as a regular drive?  uhh.gif

could someone please hold my hand and walk me through this?

These directions just plain suck.  It's not that I'm not gratefull for the work he has done for others, but I need help:

these are the directions from the specialist:
-----
Modding your Western Digital *
Now turn off your PC and connect the Western Digital and boot to dos again.
Type 'hddhackr -f' from the same path you have saved the hddss.bin file to.
This will flash your FW. It will ask if you want to create an undo file. It
is advised to do so. This will create an  'undo.bin' file that you need if
you want to undo the hack.
---

1st.  I have my hdd connected via usb, should this be ok?
2nd  I have all the required software, including the bin file on my p.c.

"type hddhackr -f from the same path you have saved the hddss.bin file to"
how on earth is that supposed to work?  I just reboot to dos, and type in one line, and it magically formats the sata drive?  or will this format my other drive?   how is this going to know to access the software?  how is this going to know to do this to my sata drive and not my regular hdd?  how will it know WHERE to find that software (hddhackr) to use it to format my sata?

Can someone please hold my hand and walk me through this in a very simple way?  I asked this same question several days ago, with nearly 200 people reading it, I have yet to receive an response.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!!!  SOMEONE HELP!!!!   I have spent countless hours trying to find a simple walk trhough for this, and have yet to do so.

I get an nfatal error after using hddhackr -u. I have an AMD 790X nb with the SB 650 South Bridge. I get the same string not match deal after I flashed. Now I tried to do the UNDO.bin file and I get this n error. I cant recall the following code after it but it says n fatal error the FW was not something. All I did was do the Undo.bin command with hddhackr. Anyone got any ideas?

I will post my experiences here too (most popular topic on hddhacking):

Basically after migrating from 20g to 120g with official MS cable my xbox1 originals became non-working.

The error message was:
"The game could not start. Please download the game again."

MS support could not help me.

All Xplorer360 versions had serious problems with my 120g Elite hdd but I could see that partition2 was missing.

To be short: if you have such problem and want an easy solution:
- get Xplorer360 xtreme2 somewhere
- connect your HDD to the PC
- in Xplorer360 select "restore partition 2" and browse the file I linked .... voila!

Thank you 'The Specialist' for Xplorer360xtreme2 smile.gif !

When I ran 'hddhackr -f' I got the following:

Detecting drives, please wait...

No drive found in Enhanced mode, now scanning in Legacy mode

(1) WDC WD1200BEVS-00UST0

Type the nr of the drive you want to use (1 to 4, x=exit) 1
Serial IDENTIFY DEV: WD-WXE108692390
Serial in hddss.bin file: NZ2XT722EJ92
Model IDENTIFY DEV: WDC WD1200BEVS-00UST0
Model string in hddss.bin file: Fujitsu MHW2120BH
Bios version IDENTIFY DEV: 07.01C07
Bios version in hddss.bin file: 009330013
Information on sector 16 does NOT match the firmware info.
Want to flash this firmware to make it compatible with sector 16 ? (y/n) y Do you want to create an undo file ? (y/n) yFatal error, the EC bios string was not found in the FW

---I get this error in both computers I've tried and each optional sata setting in the bios...   Why does computer hate me?   T_T

I have the same exact thing from using my EEE PC (Intel based) and using my main PC (AMD based with nForce). Neither worked both gave Fatal error, EC bios string was not found. I would like to get a response from someone. I find it amazing how easy this is for everyone else. Youtube, tutorials, etc. They all looked so easy.  grr.gif

I was able to copy the contents of my 20gb to a 120gb and everything works except for my Rockband 2 game saves...is there any easy way around this without spending $25-$30 on a memory unit I don't really need?

Yeah, return the memory unit when your done. Walmart has a great return policy.

Btw, this is because the saves have some sort of protection on them. A few select game's saves cannot be copied, only moved. You HAVE to use a memory card, and you have to select move, not copy.
