Hitachi 0047dh With Via Sata Mode B Problems

Hi, I have looked through the forums and tried textbooks tutorial several times but i cannot get the Hitachi drive into Mode B. Firstly is it possible to get into mode B with this setup or am i wasting my time altogether? I'm using the Slax cd to boot the pc with and let it continue until it asks for a login, once i've logged in i type restart and the pc restarts. I leave the xbox switch on and let windows boot from the restart but it will hang half way through the boot process and then restarts again. It will continue to do this until i switch off the xbox then it boots fine. I assume its not supposed to do this, so does anyone have any ideas?

Ooops forgot to say its a Via VT8237 chipset
