This is awesome, but my only concern is, once this is done, if you are using a 40 GB hard drive you can still only use 20GB of that space is this correct?

Can somebody also explain how M$ have manged to stop us from getting around using any size hard drive we like???

Oh yeah check out what I found: HERE!

I think you need to read what this hack is for.  What you are refering to can only be used to store music and movies and pictures.  This hack is to use another NonMicrosoft Hard Drive as the actual hard drive for the profile storage and content downloads and saves.  the post you are aware of on that link doesnt come close to what The Specialist has achieved.

it was in an old OXM(UK)

This clears things for me, that's why people get banned......

For the HDD thing, do you think experimenting will lead us somewhere? like changing the signature or something that let us use full capacity of the hdd?

From what I'm aware, the sector size is in the part that's written, which is signed. If the signature the system is looking for is not an exact match, it will disregard the device. What would be real interesting, however, is if you could take any drive, and set up multiple 360 partitions, and have the 360 read it as multiple devices(similar to my 200GB WD drive in my PC, which my PC recognizes as 2 100GB HDDs).

Some questions for perhaps The Specialist?

is this hack (great as it is) primarily aimed at users who's HDD had failed and didn't want to buy another one at ridiculous MS prices or people like myself who have an empty 360 HDD casing, connectors & spare scorpio SATA drive?

What do you believe are the implications of using say my friends HDD sector 16-22 and creating my own HDD using these. Perhaps this was not what you intended? Has anyone out there done this even?

Many Thanks

looks nice but can ya do an english version as well?   Also did you try using the hd you got the 7 sectors from on another console as well as the 40gb you had at same time? did they both work on live at same time?

Agreed, that's an interesting idea I've been playing with myself too. In theory, all you have to do is add an offset to the sectors for access to another partition. So a 'man in the middle' hardware device could do that. Seems like an interesting project for the more hardware oriented hacker. But then again, things in the kernel hacking thread on XBH are moving so fast now, a full system hack might not be that far away anymore ...

Again I am very impressed with what you have achieved.  It's all very interesting even if we can't do much with it just yet.

Which Kernel hacking thread btw?? blink.gif

I thought I would just show everyone this little guide I found on how to install a HD internally.
