No the xbox & the 360 are completely differrent power cords, what exactly is the overheting issu that you are getting

my xbox seems to only work in the vertical position otherwizse when I lay it horizontal I get the 2 flashing red lights 5-10 seconds after bootup. What is weird is that it works fine vertically. Also it was working in both positions before I took the case off.

try removing the screws form the case that you originally took out and see if it works then, you maybe shorting something with the screws
