VIA 6421 PCI SATA, Hitachi 47DJ, WinXP Home

Hello to everyone,

I am brand new to posting at this site and forum but I have always found the Xbox-Scene very helpful with modifying my boxes, as well as a few of my friends.

I currently am trying to flash ixtreme 1.51 to a Hitachi 47DJ drive using the VIA 6421 PCI SATA card on WinXP, but have had no luck getting Windows to detect the Hitachi. I have successfully gotten the box into ModeB with a simple DOS program named "ModeB v0.51".

I have been trying for a few days now and most tutorials assume that if you have gotten your box into ModeB that Windows has detected it, but it has not. Not in JF, FTools or iPrep!

I would appreciate any advice and thank you in advance.

Best regards,
davidilance

I also have a via 6421 pci card, but i can't do any hitachi's on it.

I have to use my onboard ICH9 Intel Sata port.

Jungleflasher, one click mode B.

Thank you for your quick response (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif).

I am unsure if I have any on-board SATA cards. I have a SATA cable and it appears to only fit my PCI SATA. The computer is really old and I have hacked 7+ boxes already using the VIA 6421.

I actually just got it to recognize the drive, except after that JF would no longer open (WTF, right???!!!).

I tried to reboot the PC with the box still in ModeB but then the computer freeze during the boot and I have no access to my OS, thus no way to open JF yet again!

What a frustrating piece of sh*t!!

UPDATE:

Just to make sure I am doing this right, here are the steps I am taking:

1. Box is connected to PC via the SATA cable from the Hitachi 47DJ to the VIA 6421 PCI SATA port (EC00 for me, according to iPrep).
2. I power on the PC and boot it all the way to Windows XP.
3. To get the box into ModeB I use the program stated before using the cmd line "ModeB EC00" (my port for the VIA 6421)
4. Now my box is in ModeB, but now JF won't start, FToolbox freezes when I try to dump, etc.

I can't help but feel JF would be my best bet if I could only get it to detect the drive BEFORE ModeB, or open at all AFTER I have put my box into ModeB!

Any ideas?

I agree with Takashi my via 6421 wont do the hitachi's either, looks like its time for you to upgrade the pc. My ich9 sata will do the Hitachi but a word of warning be very very carefull with Hitachi's theyre very easy to brick.

I get the occasional "rogue" Hitachi on my VIA 8237 & 47dj are usually the worst offenders!
Used to switch them to a SIL3114 port to flash but unfortunatley i dont have that option anymore (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Here's a Hitachi tip I picked up reading here: if using the VT6421 card to flash, you'll need to remove the drivers for it using the method listed in the JungleFlasher tutorial. You have to have PortIO32 installed.
You'll need to go to the DVDKey 32 tab in JungleFlasher and tick the "VIA ports only" option. Next, you should go to the Hitachi tab and select "Use PortIO" instead of "Use WinAPI". This way, Windows doesn't assign a drive letter for the Hitachi, but it can still be read within JungleFlasher.
If you're still having problems with your drive after setting it to Mode-B, eject the Hitachi by double-pressing the eject button (so that the tray is open) and reboot your computer.
