It seems the new update has enabled the Xbox to record power cycling of the drive.  Has this been confirmed?

If so is there anyway that the dvd drive could power cycle by fault creating a false positive and thus not feasible as a banning list?

The reason I'm asking this is because I recently flashed a Lite-on with the 360 as a PSU and Im really hoping it doesnt get banned.

this was found in NXE update

SataCdRomInitialize ---> SataChannelDetectDevice if the result of this check = 0 then it branchs to a new funtion

basically if you flashed your console using the xbox as a power source you're tagged

IIRC it was always logged, it just changed the way it logged in NXE.

This is the NXE update released last year or recently?

If it was last year then I'm not too worried.  No one has been banned yet.  When was the last ban wave?

Irrelevant.

Many things are violations, many things are logged.

Its if/when they decide to use that for a ban that it becomes a problem.

Correct.

Setting a flag isnt guaranteeing a ban, like Podger says (and if its true it makes more sense)

Old Dash

Set Flag
Set Flag
Set Flag

NXE

Set Flag (1)
Set Flag (2)
Set Flag (3)
Set Flag (4)

A counter seems a little for effective at logging it for "certain" reasons (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Of course, this is all in my own theory.

but what i dont understand is what would be the point of a counter?  most of the time ur only gonna flash the drive once which should only register the flag 2 or 3 times (assuming it records every time u pull the plug to power cycle, NOT turn on and off the 360)

Here's one scenario.  Most people flash whenever there's new firmware, and what if those counters increment shortly after each firmware release?  It's not proof, but they don't need proof to ban, they just need evidence.  I think it would be pretty easy to tell in most cases who is modded, if you could analyze SATA codes, your playing habits, which games you play early, how many of your games have DMI/SS from Europe but you live in the US, etc.

Having said that, I personally don't believe powering the drive with your 360 when you flash will get anybody banned.  Way too many people I know have modded, all of them via that method, and none of them (even the stupid ones who break all the rules) have ever been banned.
