Benq Firmware Guide Assistance, Please!
« on: September 02, 2009, 01:06:00 PM »

I've been trying to follow this guide on modding my 360's BenQ drive, I believe the guide is a little dated so I took the liberty of downloading the "latest" versions of everything I could find.

Right now I've got the following:

NTFSDOS
iPREP V10
DosFlash V1.8

and

Firmware(s):
C4EVA_iXTRME-Benq V1.1
C4EVA_iXTRM-Benq V1.1 Multi-speed
Team HyperX IXtreme 1.6 firmware for Benq, Samsung and Liteon drives

Which firmware should I be using?

Also, I'm a little lost on the process of finding out "The First 4 Numbers/Letters from the Dev IO Box". It seems that iPREP has been updated quite a bit since the guide I'm using was created because the instructions he's been giving don't really make sense.

Here's what I've done:

• Created my "file structure directory" as described in the tutorial, from what I can tell this is what he was trying to describe:• Burn NTFSDOS to a disk, tested it by booting my system with it.
• Tested DosFlash, I navigated to the DoSFlash directory and typed "dosflash.exe", I got a message describing the version of DosFlash that I was trying to start but it hung at that screen.

Now, I've yet to fully open my Xbox 360 because I don't have a T7 torx screwdriver at the moment (so I can't unscrew the eight little black screws) but I'll be getting one later today. I already have the hard part of the disassembly finished and I have a SATA cable ready to go, as you can see here:

My last question is, do I need to purchase a new SATA controller? My computers motherboard is an ASUS Striker Extreme (680i chipset) so it already uses an nforce controller, to my understanding this should work?

If there's a better, more detailed or easier to follow tutorial out there than the one I'm using (I've heard of using a USB key to boot, apparently it's easier) please post it here so I can get this done!

I know my way around forums, though I'm not sure what kind of search terms I should be using to find a guide for this. I've tried "BenQ Firmware Tutorial", "BenQ Firmware Guide", "BenQ Firmware USB", "BenQ Firmware iPREP", etc... Apparently you can just use iPREP to do pretty much all of this, if there's a guide for that I'd love to see it!

Sorry for double post but I can't seem to find the edit button for my previous post...

Anyhow, I've gotten my firmware loaded up in iPREP but I don't know how to find out which Sata Controller I should select?

(Obviously ignore the IDE Controller, and ignore the Silicon Image controllers, they're for my RAID card)

How do I know which of the three nForce Sata Controllers to select?

If there's an easier way, please, do point it out!

Well, looks like I won't be flashing now. Turns out it's a Lite-On drive and I'm not about to purchase a prove to flash my firmware, or solder anything together...
