Power Supply For 360 Power Dongle
« on: September 02, 2009, 08:44:00 AM »

So i recently bought this 360 dongle (http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/hb-360-pwrunit.html) and just waiting for it to arrive.  I'm going to use this to power my lite-on drive, but I was looking at this product (http://www.coolerguys.com/840556029977.html) instead of having to open my case everytime.  Will this work?  What do others use?

Theres nothing stopping you using that, most people use a spare molex coming from the pc itself.

Yea that should work as an alternative power source to your connectivity kit.

I havent seen that power dongle, i use a CK3 but have powered it with a external hard drive enclosure while at my friend house (which is the same thing power wise as this, the only difference is there was an IDE connection i wasnt using)

Personally i use it so much i have run a power and sata cable to the outside of my case lol..

nice! you just reminded me of something. I have an external IDE hard drive case that has a molex power supply in it!  I guess that should be safe to use?

I don't think that using this external power supply is a good idea unless you share ground with the PC in some way.

i understand your point when your powering the 360 and the computer at the same time, but I cant say i fully understand if your just powering a dvd drive?  how is this any different that putting a hard drive in an external enclosure that is connected to a separate power supply and usb cable to your pc?
