Problems With Flashing Ms25 Drive
« on: February 03, 2020, 12:24:00 PM »

I just got a used 360 from someone i know, it had a flashed DVD drive but has never been connected to the network. Well i wanted to try to undo the hack to try to prevent the unit from being banned if i decided to use Live with it, he provided me with a disk with the backup of the orginal firmware and i used DosFlash64 to flash it. Now when i power on the xbox it ejects the drive and keeps ejecting the drive every time put it back in. did i hose this flash? any any chance of saving the xbox?

I think i have figured out the issue, the grounding strip wasnt making good contact with the drive. It seems to be working now.

On the front of the xbox just under the drive just about center, there is a peice of what looks like a metal tape, this has to be making contact with a metal part of the drive, or at least it did in my particular system

i doubt that was it, its was probably the tray gears are dirty and it couldent get enough grip to pull the tray all the way back and and lock the spindle/laser assembly in its closed position.

if the problem persists you can clean the gears (remove all the drive casing, tray and logic board and soak the drive in rubbing alcohol) or slide the tray in fast.

I've never seen an issue caused by the aluminum tape.
You can pretty much disregard that thought.
Anyone else?

I thought it was weird too, but i was disassembling the xbox and was getting frustrated at getting the case apart the second time (i dont have a case tool, made one out of scrap plastic and it sucks) so i was trying to see into the case from the outside with the faceplate off, noticed the tape and figured what the hell, i rememebered reading something that the eject is done through power, not sata  and thought it could be a grounding issue and mostly out of frustration used a screwdriver to attach the foil to the case. I didnt expect it to work, but it did.

I suppose that could have been the moving and jostling the case that got it working as well
