Replacing Lite-on By Pcb Board?
« on: August 25, 2009, 09:47:00 AM »

I have a newer 360 that's drive is going bad. It will read sometimes but other times it will come up clean disk. I purchased it modded and it has a Lite-On drive. I can't do the modding so im wondering if i purchase a new Lite-On from Ebay could i just put my PCB board into it and install it in my 360?

Just buy a new laser instead.  Much less work.

Look on the laser to find the model # then search for it.

Yes PCB's can be swapped but it does require you to solder and unsolder 6 wires. They go to massive contacts so even a rookie should not have trouble.

BoNg420 has a great suggestion, a laser is a great repair option. They are a bit more difficult to instal in lite-on then samsung or benq but it still should be something you can figure out in a few minutes.

Before you go playing with the laser, be sure to take a dump of the firmware first, so you have a saved key if it goes tits up.

So its easier to replace the laser? (Any soldering or anything like that?) If thats so then i will look into doing that.

If i do have to go this route i should be able to solder it.

Like i said i cant backup the firmware because i don't have the kit to do so because i purchased my system modded so as long as this is a solution in which no firmware is required then im all for it.

the laser can be replaced with a simple single screw..its a very easy job..

and you dont need the kit for an allready modded drive.eject the tray and then power the drive off..the power the drive on with the tray open and it puts it in windows mode..you can then use jungle flasher to get dummy from ixtreme option..that will dump the key from an allready modded liteon over sata with no need for a kit..

but either way a laser is the best option..

Alright im gonna go with the laser replacement.

I've never used jungle flasher so is the process the same as iprep? I mean do you make a boot disk and then use jungle flasher to dump the firmware like iprep?
