Problem Upgrading Lite-on From Ixtreme 1.5 To 1.6
« on: August 17, 2009, 08:19:00 PM »

OK, 5 hours ago I tried to flash my Lite-On drive again. I'd done it successfully before, getting the 1.5 firmware on it, and figured doing it again would be easy. I dumped all the files successfully, JungleFlasher said there were some errors with the serial info so I corrected them, inputting the missing data. Went to flash, had to send the vendor intro 2x but it seemed to work. But then it seemed like it was stuck in Vendor Mode so I tried to send the OUttro, which just seemed to hang and JungleFlasher still showed it being in Vendor mode. So, I figured I'd just erase again and redo the process for good measure to make sure nothing was up... and I never could get it back into vendor mode. After that, JungleFlasher just kept saying No Device Detected. I kept getting Device Status 0xD0, 0x50, and 0x51. Power cycling the drive didn't seem to change anything, and the eject button on the 360 does nothing. So, I figured I'd try Dosflash 16. Put it on a floppy drive and rebooted. It goes through all the IDE and SATA ports and then says NO ATAPI DEVICES FOUND (I'd unplugged everything except the Lite-On 360 drive). I tried to do a manual flash, doing "dosflash w" but I kept having to input parameters I wasn't sure about, like the MTK type, flash size, and so on.

Booted back into windows, tried Jungle Flasher again. Whether the device is on or off, it reports device status 0xFF.

So right now, the DVD tray is half-open, the eject button does nothing, status = 0xFF. I'm using my motherboard's SATA slots, as they worked before and assumed they'd work again. It's an NF4 chipset. I'll continue searching the boards because I'm stressing out over this but please if anyone has any information that could help me out that'd be great... I'm supposed to be packing for college X-o

Oh, I can't edit, but also, I tried l-o-eras but it just returns FF7F. Also tried power cycling between them.

I had problems with JungleFlasher when I erased my firmware.
It could no longer detect my drive. It is better to do flashing in DOS.

I would suggest using MTKFlash instead. I personally have had a better experience with it. It doesn't make mistakes like JF and DOSFlash do. And if you incorrectly use DOSFlash you can have a lot of complications.

Also, you do not need all the extra parameters:

mtkflash w /m ixtreme16.bin

Yeah... It's that easy. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

If you are using DOSFlash you can manually input your port so it doesn't have to find your drive.

and flashed the drive.

which then let it eject and stuff. after that i redid the whole flashing process again in windows with jungleflasher.

Tried using MTKFlash, it couldn't find the drive either. The drive doesn't show up in the BIOS. I'm pretty sure the SATA port it's plugged into is 0960. l-o-eras just returns device status FF7F. Thanks for the suggestions so far, hopefully I can get this working before I leave!

I just tried it on another nforce 4 computer. It had vista 64 so dosflash was my only option... but once again it was unable to find any ATAPI devices.

Any other ideas? Would getting a PCI SATA controller possibly save me? If so, any specific suggestions that I could grab from a place like Newegg?

this is what worked for me,
basically your drive is semi bricked.
Jungle flasher does not see it because your bios does not see it

dosflash reports no Atapi device when it can not find one and that xbox drive does not complete the handshake for some reason.

Booting into dos and running dosflash, only reported my ide ports, so this time do this.

Boot into dos with a sata device hooked up, mine has the hd on the master.

Run dos flash and it should report your ide and sata ports.

For me it is 4 ide ports and 2 sata.

While the pc is still in dos remove the sata cable from the device and plug it into the xbox drive.

Now power the xbox up. the center green light should be flashing the way it does when you have done the half open trick and repowered it.

Now run dosflash again and it will now report that a device other than your hd is on that port.

run dosflash/? for syntax if need be.

But with dosflash 1.7 is just says choose the number and write and enter the name of the hacked bin.

It erases and writes so no need for L-O-ERAS.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the reply, I'm going to try it in a bit. But I just looked up the price of replacement drives and they seem pretty easy to come by. On the chance that my drive still isn't found, if I bought a replacement drive and tried to flash it, would the chipset be an issue if I got a BenQ drive? I know the hard part about the Lite-On drives is supposed to be extracting the key but I had a problem flashing so I'm just wondering if a different drive would be any easier to flash and how to avoid this happening again.

Thanks again!

OK, just tried that. Thing is, DosFlash doesn't list anything on any of my ports. Not even hard drives. And when I plugged the drive in anyway it still didn't notice anything.
