Xtractor Spear And New Lite-on?
« on: August 10, 2009, 06:10:00 PM »

I just got a new arcade unit that's a brand-new Lite-On. I have only flashed Hitachis before (3 of them). I have found tutorials on flashing Lite-Ons but they all point to needing to solder or buy a tool to get the drive key.

It seems the Xtractor Spear Add-On is tailor-made to make flashing a Lite-On solder-free and painless. But wait, the official site for the Spear says it can damage the latest Lite-On drives!

http://www.360xtract...rpro/index.html says:

ATTENTION:
We recommend NOT USING the 360Xtractor Pro with the latest Lite-on drive model DG-16dD2S with firmware 83850c!
You may damage your drive since this is a new drive that is now just coming out are not fully tested and supported yet!

*******

Is this still true? My new Lite-On was just manufactured last month (June 2009). I don't have it next to me to tell you the drive version but June 2009 means it's the absolute latest Lite-Ons on the market.

I want to flash it without having to solder anything. I can solder but I'd rather not do it if I don't have to, so I am fine with spending a bit of cash on a tool to do the dirty work of extracting the key.

So is it true the Xtractor Spear won't work with my new 360's Lite-On? What's the best tool to buy to flash this Lite-On and best website for fastest shipping to USA address to purchase from?

Thanks in advance for any information...

lool, dl the newest jungleflasher, or freekey/openkey.

these drives are dumpable/flashable via software, no spear or none of that crap like the previous liteon.

The label will say:

74850c or 83850c

depending on what flavour yours is dictates how you proceed.

I got the exact information on the drive, now.

It's a Lite-On

HW Version: A0A2
FW Version: 83850c

DG-16D2S-09C

So it's 100% flashable with software only? No Xtractor Spear or Connectivity Kit 3?

Okay, but even the latest JungleFlasher 1.59 beta tutorial PDF still says all Lite-On's require additional hardware:

http://jungleflasher...ngleFlasher.pdf

Page 4 is where it says that.

I am confused. Why would this tutorial made by JF say CK3 or Maximus extractor is still needed?

Okay, I was wrong about latest JF version. I meant the latest PDF at their site is version 1.59. So I wonder how much their step-by-step instructions change in flashing my Liteon then since the whole version about using a probe is null and void?

not null and void.  ONLY for the 83850c liteons the old liteons still in circulation still require that probe etc.  just flash the new liteon like a benq but follow the instructions in HERE to find out how to get the key etc.

That thread is confusing. I don't understand the original post with that code and all but I guess I don't need to. Later in the thread there's working links to freekey and something called lo83.

I am still confused as to the directions for flashing. A few people there give different instructions, and their directions are pretty bad anyway. Is there a complete tutorial or set of directions with every little step?

Call me stupid, an idiot, whatever you want, but I don't want to mess up. It seems a lot more complicated than flashing my 3 Hitachi's over the years. Maybe it's because these drives just now became flashable, I don't know, but I can't find any really good step-by-step directions that are well laid-out and explained.

this has always been speculation.  I have yet to see anyone stating being banned b/c of using the xbox as a PSU.

Follow this guide if you don't want to buy the CK3. http://forums.xbox-s...&...t&p=4518007

However, it would be much easier to have a CK3 so you don't have to unplug a live power wire.

i said "MAY" sleep.gif cant be too careful... see what happened to the people that decided to power 12v fans via the dvd drive cable causing the drive to read at reduced speeds and possibly causing "flags" and bans a while back.  wink.gif
