Problem Flashing Ms25 Drive
« on: August 10, 2009, 05:27:00 PM »

Alright guys, i really need a little help here. I am well versed at flashing drives but i am having trouble with this new one i am trying to mod for a friend.
It's a first gen Xbox 360 with a Samsung/Toshiba MS25 drive in it.
The problem is when i read the firmware from it, using either Jungle Flasher or iPrep, the dvd key ALWAYS turns out as 00000000000000000000000000000000.
No matter what way i put the drive in vendor mode it always ends up giving me this key.
I REALLY need someone to help me get the right key from this drive or i have heard sometimes it's possible to use a hex editor to find the key from the orig.bin.
I have attached the original firmware .bin file to this post to see if someone can hopefully help with this mod.
PLEEEEEEEEEEASE help!!!!!!

Why does this keep happening to people?

How does tools like firmtool and jungleflasher detect what address the key is at?

Sammy key is delivered in the format of 21 bytes.

01 xx xx xx xx 16 byte key
02 xx xx xx xx 16 byte key
03 xx xx xx xx 16 byte key
04 xx xx xx xx 16 byte key
05 xx xx xx xx 16 byte key
06 xx xx xx xx 16 byte key

The apps however, look for the latest one.

Sooooo,

01 EE EE EE EE key
FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF

Means only 1 key location.

01 EE EE EE EE 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
02 11 11 11 11 FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
03 EE EE EE EE FF E6 64 F7 58 59 07 F5 67 0E A5 C5 3B C0 79 8C
FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF

Will show key FFE664F7585907F5670EA5C53BC0798C

As the apps look for the last key location

01 EE EE EE EE 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
02 11 11 11 11 FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF FF
03 EE EE EE EE FF E6 64 F7 58 59 07 F5 67 0E A5 C5 3B C0 79 8C
04 11 11 11 11 11 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

Gives key of 00000000000000000000000000000000

Looking in hex will show the other key(s) though.

My man, you are seriously a life saver. This 360 belongs to one of my Kenpo teachers. I really wouldn't wanted to have messed up his console.
It flashed perfectly and boots a backup perfectly.

Again, thanks bro.

Just one bit of advice.

A Sammy MS25 (stock) only needs intro'd - there is no firmguard to stop you.
