I have not identified the shorted area, it is merely a best guess at this point.
The drive was function/reading normally, prior to removing the drive casing for a full case mod, and while going through the process of unlocking the drive for flashing, I discovered it would no longer read discs.
I tried the pcb in another couple drives, and got the same results. Likewise, I tried a couple other pcb boards in this drive, and it worked fine. So, it's not a laser issue.
Despite the read problem, the drive opens and closes just fine, the drive still boots fine in the 360, and does not give any firmware related errors or otherwise prevent the 360 from booting properly.
The only thing I can think of is using a passkey to get it into the unlocked state, and I can then dump the firmware.
If that doesn't -- or won't -- work, I would LOVE to send it your way, Ranger, and have you just email me the firmware from it (board can obviously be trashed after that...). Can you guys PM me with the info I need? (IMG:
