Hi there, how's it going?

I have the following problem when trying to dump the original firmware from my Hitachi 78FK using JF 1.65:

Dumping f/w of Hitachi 0078/0079 by Ram Upload Method via WIN32 API

Ram Upload Dump Failed

Found drive F: - CD/DVD.

I have a VIA SATA card with the laterst drivers installed. I have also tried using Xbox360 FW ToolBox 4.8 and when trying to 'RAW dump firmware as' i get : cannot read from drive.

The drive is visible both in my computer and in device manager.

Anyone know what the problem can be?

Try using a non via sata chipset that causes issues with hitachis hope this helps u mate

If you wat to use VIA PCI SATA card do not install driver for it. Install portIO32 and use with that.
Please research little bit.
There is alot of post about problem with VIA card driver installed and JF.
Disable your card from Device Manager, viaraid.sys from system32/driver folder to move to another place.
Enable your card in DM. it should show you with yellow ? mark.

put a original game or duel layer dvd movie in the drive before you dump flash!!! Thought all knew this??

Hey, thanks for your replies.

When using FW Box 4.8 i did put in a disk it did not change.

I have disabled the card, removed the driver file from windows/system32/drivers/  got the portIO visible in JF.

When i run JF the port displays the correct drive and mode b is achieved with no problem but then in the log it shows that no hitachi drives were found:

This is a 32 bit process running on 2 x 32 bit CPUs
PortIO is installed and running.
Found 6 I/O Ports.
Found 1 Com Ports.
Found 5 windows drives A: C: D: F: G:
Found 2 CD/DVD drives D: F:

disable your other dvdroms,pull the ide lead out of them,if you use firmware toolbox be sure to close jungleflasher.

 

be sure the drive is visible in windows.

 

also i have probs like crazy with hitachi lately.i have to use ck3 now for powering the drives,seems to work flawlessly with firmware toolbox using nforce,used to be fine months ago,it just seemed to go downhill.

 

so i use the kit now and use junmgleflasher for modeb,but,i use firmware toolbox for flashing,obviously with a movie/game in the drive.

You no longer need to do that with Jungleflasher.

I will try disconecting all the drives i have and try flashing it htat way but i have a few questions first:

1) I have been sugested to use a 79 unlock disk as it might be the case that my drive is a 79 with a 78FK sticker on. Although i'm quite certain that it is a 78FK since in device manager it states 78KF, my question is - what possible damage can be done by using the 79 unlock disk on a 78FK drive?

2) Although i can get it into b mode with no problem ( i.e it is visible in my computer etc.) i read that when in b mode the tray must eject by itself after closing. For some reason this is ot the case with my drive. It still takes 2 clicks to opne/close but it does not eject by itself. Is this an issue?

I also would like to add that i did not use a slax disk to get into mode b as it was previously moded with iXtreme 1.4 , i just had to open the tray, turn of the power supply and then plug it back in and it was in mode b.

If someone can answer the 2 questions i have that would be great!
