So Can I Install Windows On My Xbox?
« on: October 05, 2004, 03:10:00 AM »

Sorry but I am fairly new to the xbox mod scene and I need some answers.  First of all is it possible to install any version of windows onto my Xbox?  Secondly if not is there a way to run windows based programs to run on my xbox?  My plan is to mod my second Xbox and hook it up to a monitor in my car so I can play games and watch movies in there.  Then I got a USB gps receiver and would like to hook this up to my xbox and use a program for GPS navagations.  I think MS streets and maps will work.  So if anyone has any suggestions that would be great and save me hours of investigating on my own.  Worst case if someone knows howto convert windows programs into xbox compatable that would be the best because I don't really want to have to upgrade the Hdd in it.  BUt the maps would have to still be able to be updated.  Thanks.

no, you cant use programs coded for windows on linux as far as i know. thats why they say "windows 98, ME, XP" or whatever in the system requirements.

Well in Linux you can use WINE to run windows apps.  Theres also Codeweavers plugins for some major windows apps.

Okay my next issue is I want to take the DVD drive otu of my xbox and mount it in my dash.  Is there any alternative to the standard 18" ide cable to connect it to my xbox?  I need minimum 5 feet .... the best would be 10-12 feet.  Is there any way to convert the signal to usb and then back to IDE or something .... anything to get me 12 feet of cable?  I know this question is in the wrong section but hopefully someone will reply.  If not what section should I post it in?  Thanks for your time everyone.
