We can but...
If we do this will this affect your work? how far have you got? wouldn't this spoil your hard work? the last thing we want to do is step on anyone's toes who are already trying to decrypt this information,

And also, since announcing the free solution we have received a couple of threats already stating that "it would be in our best interests NOT to release a FREE solution" as there "WILL" be "consequences",

Threats don't bother us at all but we have to think if we should releases codes and decrypted information before we release the tools to the public incase MS decide to patch or take action, decisions decisions....

it all depends how badly lite-on can convince M$ of the patching they have done..the reason samsung / hitachi / benq all lost the ocntracts to produce M$ drives is their drives where not secure enough..
if releasing the crypto or whatever hole you have found is the FINAL hole as iriez was talking about this will only matter if lite-on carry on with the contract..if M$ has ordered sufficient drives to be out of pocket when a free solution is released then the contract will probably go to another drive manufacturer. this will in turn start the cat and mouse game again..if the contract where to go to another manufacturer then it wouldnt mater if this was the FINAL hole..

i personaly think M$ has invested heavily in purchasing lots of the new lite-on drives and would be sufficiently pissed off to give the drive contract to another manufacturer..but i really dont know..if it was my business then i certainly would not give them further investment..

So let me get this straight, carranzafp is working on a solution and crypted a message using the crypto in the firmware to test anyone else?

Yeah, which will mean part of the decryption is out in the public before we have even released the toolset giving enough time for MS/Liteon to look into patching retail drives, we need this kept under wraps as close to our release as possible, surely you can see why?

If you want to chat about it more we can via PM,  wink.gif

Um there is no way for MS/Lite-on to patch the drives already the firmware is final in retail. They can make a new drive firmware but that happen no matter what since foundmy.com has already figured it out.  I dont see why all these people are wanting you to post it either, but I don't think at this point Lite-On can do anything about it besides change the firmware again, and it took them a while the first time they probably already have millions of drives made with the new version that only foundmy.com has been able to crack, that is until the people in this thread release theres.
