I don't think people should say they're going to donate, just so people will think more highly of them, and then not actually donate. I would donate, but I'm not in the best financial situation right now, otherwise I would. At least I admit that I'm not donating right now. Also, I wasn't one of the people that whined when the only solution was $42. I was fully prepared to accept that. While it's fortunate that several apps have come out that allow us to dump our key for free, I was ready to give $42 to foundmy.com when I got an 83 drive. Now, when I get my first 83, whenever that may be, I'll make every effort to donate to the scene.

Before you assume I'm trying to justify being cheap, yes, I have donated a modest amount to scene projects in the past, and I am absolutely with you in spirit.  But as long as we are moralizing, I think it is worth emphasizing that money is not the motivation behind their efforts.  I can assure you 100%, they did not undertake any of this from day one for money.

These guys certainly deserve our thanks and respect.  But as someone who has been in a similar position before, I know that there are things which are more gratifying than money.  A lot of times giving money is the easiest thing to do, and it's really done to make the giver feel good about himself.

And if I may suggest something, I think keeping things civil and on-point is one way to show respect for the scene and to honor what these guys have made possible.  Know-it-all wannabes are usually just as bad as whiny little pricks, as neither of them make the community a more enjoyable thing.

I'm not saying you shouldn't donate, but don't just let that be the end of it, either.  Try to give back in all of the ways there are to give back.

i dont realy see what point there is in even discussing donations.if something is released,if it has a donate button,either make a donation or do not.if the person/s who released it would like donations they can make the comments or release notes.

Thats what I said. It wasn't JF. It was my PC. I was running Win7 beta1 at the time, it was an HTPC w/ a lot of extraneous stuff on it. I couldn't flash any drives w/ it in Windows. But once I created a WinXP partition with NOTHING on it except JF+VIA+PortIO it works great now.

It was the first release, when he had a lot of problems w/ the NTFS support that would cause freezing. It froze for me right after erasing the chip. It created no back up. I was lucky enough to have had a backup the first time I flashed it. I was updating from 1.4 to 1.51 at the time.

ghaladream i fully understand you situation times are tough right now for a boat load of people jobs are scares and what job are out their the work hrs are limited i myself am effect by this along with thousands of others. but like i said i was not pointing towards any one person in general it was a statement, a lot of people think if they say " hey i'm gonna donate to free app" that someone will develop a free app quicker when that is not the case people do this as a hobby not a job myself included.  i spend more money just testing shit and helping then i ever made modding.

we are just lucky that we have testers and developers that are always up for a challange and care if your console gets banned or fried, because they could just say ah fuck it we proved we could do it , so what a few keys are off, but no they go above and beyond and make sure that it's 100% satisfactory.  


the post was not to get anyone all riled up it was just to say hey stick by what you say if you said you're gonna donate then do it, if you have then that great but don't say something and not mean or follow through with what you said.

Apart from the obvious "what the hell do you care?" answer, I can honestly say I donated my fair share a few days ago. And in another currency that's more stable than the USD for that matter

P.S. For the ones who go "Let them add a button" : they asked to donate to the JungleFlasher team. And JF has a donate button... and a site where you can donate...

I know precisely how much money was donated since the start of this process to the JF team. Lets just say you couldn't buy you and your girlfriend a really nice dinner with it.

There's a good chance that because of all the drama, the politics, and the internal dissension about all of this, that there might not be another IX released for the next drive.

I said and said and said that the possibility exists that by releasing this method you might shoot yourselves in the foot. Well, at this time and point, it appears that you've taken your foot off....but not with a gun. With a Axe. Just because the apple fell to the ground because the coyote nipped at it change the fact that it fell off the tree.
