Can I Mod A Lite-on Without Buying Ck3 Or The Probe?
« on: August 04, 2009, 05:29:00 PM »

Hey,
I have been flashing 360 DVD drives using the 360 as a power source, and a VIA 6421A chipset I bought.
I want to flash Lite-ons, and have read many contrasting threads about what I would have to buy/do in order to do so.
I plan to use JungleFlasher.
Is it possible for me to literally solder the 2 points at R707 together, and just follow the JungleFlasher tutorial, then leave it soldered?
Or is there more I'd have to do?

Thanks.

No. You need to ether buy or build a serial RS232 converter to get the drive key before you can build the proper ixtreme to flash to your Liteon.

Now if you have the new Liteon 83850c you don't need this item but you will have to pay some guy $42 to decrypt the drive key from the dump info you get from the drive before you can flash it. This as of now is the ONLY option for this new drive.

Yes, that's how i do all mine. I use a peice of 30awg kynar wire.

If you plan on doing a few lite-on's you might as well buy some kind of Key Extracker kit like the ck3 or maximus has that one. You wont need the probe if your soldering the r707 point.

If you were hoping that by soldering the r707 you would eliminate the need for a ttl to serial converter then nope.
If you want to use you 360 as power source still its a bit more tricky with lite-on but it can be done.
All you would need then is to search somewhere like ebay for this item "RS232 Serial Port To TTL Converter Module MAX3232"

Should cost no more then $10usd

This is only needed for the original 7xxxx version lite-on's the new 8xxxx version one can be read via SATA but the resulting dump needs to be sent to foundmy.com for decryption at a cost of $42USD per key. (nice)

Once you have that you need to read up a bit but everything you need to know is in this forum somewhere.

And the free solution (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)  Works like a charm.

check this site out http://forums.afterd...view.cfm/767988.  that is only the extractor so you will have to power the drive with the xbox still.
