Use Ti Calculator Graph-link As Lite-on Key Extractor
« on: August 03, 2009, 05:42:00 PM »

I popped open my TI graph-link (for TI 83+ and that stuff). I heard it was a RS232 <-> TTL converter, so I figured I could use it as a key extractor for my Lite-On drive.

(IMG:http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3556/3787056910_5e95a606dd_b.jpg)

The jack appears to split into power, ground and data. I need to remove the jack and figure out which is which. Any clues?

Any advice on this would help.

Thanks

Okay, so I'm not sure I really understand how this jack is oriented.

I guessed that the jack was:

first - power
middle - data
last - ground

I tried various combinations to test the cable with a battery to see if I could get data in hyperterminal. None worked, and when I tried putting what I thought was ground into the 5V molex connector of my PC, I got a spark and the cable got real hot, so I figured I had just closed the circuit.

Any help?

Could you get the name of the chip? Just read off all the stuff from it. If there's gunk covering it then use Isopropyl Alcohol (91%) and a Q-tip to remove that. The data sheet tells all... Does the cable still work with your calculator? You might have fried it.

I can't test it on my calculator since I removed the jack from it.

The chip on it is this: http://pdf1.alldatasheet.com/datasheet-pdf...SC/LM339AM.html

It says it's a Low Power Low Offset Voltage Quad Comparator. That doesn't seem like the circuit I was expecting.

Hmm... I at a loss. According to http://www.ftp83plus.net/cablesA.htm The TX/RX lines arent used or connected at all. BTW you know you can sample free MAX3232's from maxim-ic.com and build the circuit found here: http://beta.ivancover.com/wiki/index.php/X...D2S_Extract_Key

That was the first thing I tried. No luck. Hyperterminal test works, but I can't get a key dumped. I get a Serial Data is Bad error.
