Is This Possible?
« on: February 02, 2020, 11:27:00 PM »

My current Xbox, with a flashed TS-MS28 drive, has finally hit the fan and broke. I don't have the warranty anymore so I am thinking about buying an Arcade system and using that since I can't exactly send it to Microsoft without paying money either way.

I read that pretty much all the new Arcade systems have the Lite On drive equipped on them.

My question is, would it be possible to use my old TS-MS28 drive in the new Arcade system? As in can I swap them out with ease with no hardware problems? And if so, would this be recommended? And are there any tutorials on doing so?

I just don't want to shell out 40 dollars for the connectivity kit if I don't have to, you know?

Well, thanks a lot! Appreciate the help!

you need to get your key off the liteon , so you would need either ck3 kit or such like, or a home built probe , also if you are gonna go out and buy a new machine there is a chance that you may get one of the new unflashable liteon drives , altho a way round this is expected at some point in the near future

So basically, no matter what, I would need to get one of the kits right? Whether I swap the drives out or mod the new Lite On?

Would getting this be good enough? http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/hb-360-usbxtr

Or would I need additional items? I am under the impression that I still need to power my drive to grab the key, but can I just power the drive using the Xbox? And then use this item to grab the key? No need for anything else?

Also, would it be better to just keep the Lite On? Or use the TS? I heard the TS was one of the best drives, but I don't want to swap em if it isn't true, you know?

As for the newer Lite On drives, its alright cause I just got it and its the older model. Sucks that there is a new one. :x

Anyway, thanks for the help!

Yes that extractor will be good enough.  However, i would recommend a power dongle as you will have to power cycle the drive before you pull the key.  The drive must be in half way closed position and you must power cycle the drive within a second or so, while the drive is closing by physically pulling the power cable out of the drive and put it back in within a second or so, which could be VERY tedious.  The power dongle has a on/off switch which you obviously flick quickly back and forth to power cycle the drive.

You do not need to swap the drive.  The Lite-on (except for hacking it) is the MUCH better drive.  It has a much easier time reading cheaper media than the other drives.

When looking for a 360 make sure to look at the manufacture date before you buy it (there's a hole in the box that displays the serial number and manufacture date).  The newest (unhackable) drives are found in Xbox's manufactured in May 2009 or later
