LiteOn 83850c Solution
« Reply #60 on: July 12, 2009, 04:13:00 AM »

As far as I understood Iriez' first post they are in the process of decrypting
the firmware right now. Dumping the whole firmware will never be possible
at home.

They seem to be quite positive that they will find new ways of getting the key
when they analyze the decrypted firmware.
Quoting the strings found in the firmware is pointing to the fact that there
might be hidden unlocking or key dumping functions in the firmware.

Most importantly, they seem to have a fallback option that is already working,
but they only consider to use this as a last resort in case there is absolutely
no other way to get the key.

Correct me if I am wrong.

so goin by what centaur said, is there a possibility we'll (at home) be able to get the key via software only ?

or will hardware still be needed ? like the original liteon.

just wondering.

thanks.

We won't know that until someone tells us (ie. Team HyperX)

Once again, If anybody in the USA has these drives, I would like to get ahold of a few of these drives for experimenting. If I extract the DVD key from the drive I would be happy to give it to you.

Thanks.

Just speculating but maybe the 'hole' that allowed us to dump the key over serial connection is still there and they have locked it out via the firmware?
In the similar way a 79 is unlocked for firmware dump, a solution for liteon? As I said, I don't know but a soft unlock then dvdkey dump of dummy.bin would sure be nice smile.gif
Good work THX, the scene is alive and well!

Twice as long as it is from the middle to the end.

^yeah it would seem the new lite-on's are hit and miss (in the usa), but i would bet the newer lots do have em.

what lot numbers were those 4 ?

i mean after reading this thread and others even some 360's made in march had the new revision, seems those were in europe tho i think.

anyway let's all just wait an see what hyperx has for us, in time, i don't think they'll dissapoint, everyones just impatient. lol.
