It is good to hold this a secret for now. If this comes out too soon it will give MS time to come up with something different again.

The thing is they already announce that the firmware has been dumped.  That was stupid.   There's nothing to stop Microsoft from continuing to make changes thus making whatever Team HyperX has irrelevant.

Well here in Canada, we still have tons of OLD stock, I wish we had the newer units, hopefully ones with design changes to stop the 3 red lights, but right now if you visit a big box store here in Canada you are still purchasing units with 2008/09 dates, god almost year old stock.

Might this be a new standard?   the 512 Mb memory arcades   are fairly new
these models could be the start of the new liteon mainstream drives

The one I had passed to me was a UK Arcade brand new from Littlewoods catalogue, console build date 28/04/2009. Ill pass on the info that progress has been made to my friend, he was gutted when he bought it.

Well, since they haven't released a "way to do it", then it's unbeknown to MS what someone can do, atm. Unless MS knows what holes were "left open" on this fw (of course, they don't go leaving "holes" in things), . They don't know what the team has discovered, so they can't stop it until they know what it is.

Sounds like a very sensible idea imo. I'm more interested in the hackers being able to hack the new drive, than actually getting my drive to boot backups lol. All very interesting stuff (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I'm guessing these were strings found in the f/w dump? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Is there anywhere on the net I can read about the more technical aspects of what goes into hacking these drives?  I find this stuff really interesting.  What did M$ do differently in each drive revision etc ?

is there a way to tell if you have the 83850c liteOn vs the normal one just by opening the tray?

I am still interested in getting a few of these new DVD drives. Please PM me if you have one and want to get rid of it. I will ofcourse share the key with you if I retrieve it.

Thanks.

am i missing somthing? its already out in repaired units and in some retail units so the drive is final any changes now would result in a 3rd lite-on drive so using this logic you may aswell wait untill 360 is finshed to defeat any changes

i kind of get it if they want to wait untill a high number on these models are sold to give a higher amount of modable drives but you can bet a 3rd model will be released at some point anyway

So where am I least likey to get this model drive from?
    * Newegg is listing 360s with the 512 mb (http://www.newegg.co...N82E16868105018). I'm guessing this would ensure that I get the latest hardware.
        * Or, dell has an arcade that I can get for $180 with taxes - the problem here is I do not know what version arcade I will get.
