LiteOn 83850c Solution
Posted by Iriez | July 9 19:48 EST | News Category: Xbox360

Great news from Team HyperX....

The LiteOn revision 83850c that has been mainly coming out of repair centers in europe has been fully dumped. More details will come as the firmware is fully decrypted, but at the very worst we have a work-around if all known backdoors are disabled. A solution for this model will NOT be released to public until this version becomes mainstream. E.g. is being shipped commercially with new xbox360's.

Follow the thread below for more details on security as we discover them!

A special note for LiteOn/MTK:

"In Dedication To The Birth Of Mackay On February Twelve 2007" and "MIKE LOVES HELEN"

Dont quit your dayjob yet mike.

Things yet to be discovered:

Is Uart disabled completely on new version? (method previously used to dump key via 'serial')
New vendor cmd's ? backdoors?
Method for software read/write without hardware modification?

Will post updates as we come to them, and decide what information may safely be disclosed to public. Keep in mind that it is within the best interest of the modding community for groups to keep selective security information private, as it may enable vendors to patch holes!

Cheers.

It is good to hold this a secret for now. If this comes out too soon it will give MS time to come up with something different again.

In germany the LiteOn 83850C came only in brand new 360's and not from Support.

The LiteOns from the Supports are Only A020 with the 7XX firmware without Serial Data (that is the only Little problem with Support LiteOn's but that is not a Problem)

I hope you Understand me with my BAD BAD English wink.gif

From what I understand so far about this drive is that the key is twice as long as the normal key from every other drive. A guy on Afterdawn dumped his and hex-edited the key to only be "normal" legnth and it booted backups fine. I'll try to find the thread about this and link it, if it's allowed here.

Sounds like bullshit to me. I don't know much about hex editing but I do know your not going and changing the key to how you feel it should read.

Very interesting. This is the first USA case that I have seen. As more and more people report, then we will be more and more likely to release smile.gif

Either way, it sounds fishy. Twice as long? Sorry, this is not a variable environment. Key data is precise each and every time. Key placement might change, but length is constant.

And *no one* can "dump" a liteon. Even if they managed to descapsulate it, it is heavily encrypted. This drive is one of the bigger, and more advanced hacking projects than any aspect of any console in any scene.
