Replacement Question
« on: June 26, 2009, 10:58:00 AM »

Hello, I have a Samsung drive that I attempted to upgrade to 1.6 without success.. Unfortunately no backup of the key.. I'm looking on Ebay and noticed that several people are selling MB's with BenQ DVD-Key and Firmware.. Is it possible that if I bought these I would be able to flash my Samsung drive with a BenQ firmware and DVD-Key??

Thanks!

Yes, that's possible. What you'll end up doing is spoofing your Samsung to appear as a BenQ drive in the Samsung version firmware. Then add the key they provide and everything will work perfect.

No that is not possible.  The poster above me must have misread your posting.  If you do not have a backup or the key from your samsung then your 360 is toast.  If you do have a backup or a key then you can swap drives without a problem.

lord^infamous is mistaken...

Yes, this will be possible. As long as the new motherboard you're buying comes with a copy of the firmware or drive keys that's associated with it, you can use it with any DVD drive by spoofing the FW.

@ lord^infamous...your statement would be true if he were using the motherboard from his old SAMSUNG XBOX360, since that's the system/motherboard which he has lost the keys for.

Did you also not read his posting?  "Unfortunately no backup of the key".  Without a backup he can not doing any kind of swapping.

Yah, I'd be getting a new motherboard and BenQ Key and using my old DVD drive and case.. So can someone please clarify which is right? Can I or can't I?  I would not be using the old motherboard whatsoever.

You are the one who didn't read the posting correctly. He doesn't need his old key if he buys a new motherboard for his 360! A new motherboard will contain a NEW set of keys (as he said they're advertised to come with the keys) he can use that key to flash to his OLD Samsung drive, thus making his XBOX work again.
