Dead Hitachi Lg 47dh
« on: June 18, 2009, 06:35:00 PM »

I have a stock firmware Hitachi 47DH in my 360. I started getting the open tray error so I went on a quest to try and fix it. After taking it apart, vacuuming the dust out and cleaning the laser, it still does not work. So I figured I could replace and just dump the firmware from my 47DH to a 47DH I got off eBay. This would be grand except there are no 47DH's on eBay.

After reading some more posts I read quite a few opinions that the Hitachi drives are crap. Can I change the drive to a completely different brand? If I did would I just have to use that Hitachi Key insertion thing I seen in the FAQ at the top of the board? What would be the best drive to replace it with?

first question yes....second yes(you need to spoof the next drive as the original -ex  benq vad 6038 spoofed as hitachi 0047)...third   liteon or benq

So if I get a BenQ VAD6038 drive. I power my hitachi drive through the 360 and run a sata cable to my PC. Put it into mode B so it shows up in Windows. Use 360 Firmware toolbox to get that key. Save it into a text file. Power BenQ drive through xbox and sata to PC, mode b for drive letter. Dump the firmware using memdump. Open 360 firmware tool, paste the key from hitachi drive and create the new encrypted firmware image. Flash that file back to the drive and put the xbox back together.

Is that the general idea? Last time I put a drive into Mode B the 2-wire trick was the easiest way, I'm assuming theres something new? Can I get a stock firmware dump for the BenQ drive from the usual places and just inject my key into that so I don't have to dump the firmware myself?

Sorry to post again but it won't let me edit my post. I've been reading some more and I found a post that said use Firmware Toolbox for all the key extraction/injection/spoofing and to use dosflash for dumping and flashing the BenQ drive. I then seen another post that said JungleFlasher now works with BenQ drives so would the easiest method be?

Firmware Toolbox to get key from Hitachi drive.
JungleFlasher to dump firmware from BenQ drive.
Firmware Toolbox to inject Hitachi key into BenQ firmware.
Firmware Toolbox to spoof BenQ firmware as Hitachi.
JungleFlasher to flash spoofed and keyed firmware to BenQ drive.

So for putting a drive into mode-b when powered by the 360 and sata cable to PC (i.e. no connectivity kit or anything), will like firmware toolbox do that? or something with a nice GUI as opposed to the 2-wire trick that I did back in the day?

save your self a load of pain, buy a hitachi drive off ebay and part out the old one.

Just swap over the pcbs and you dont need to mess around with spoofing, which some people say, a spoofed drive is easier to get banned with.

I had a 47dj drive that was starting fail, bought a reconditioned drive from ebay for 15quid, swapped the pcbs and was up n running within the hour.

Oh and the spare drive, I got a laser from ebay, fitted it on and now i have a spare drive incase the current one goes dead on me.

I'm not planning on using an ixtreme firmware or anything, I just want a plain old original stock firmware.

I ordered a BenQ drive about 20 minutes before you posted. Wish I would have waited. Will they ban the gamertag's on the console or just the console? Cause I'm figuring by the time I get the drive and get it spoofed and flashed and everything I'll have bought another console and just use my current broken one as a spare and a dvd player for our living room.

they just ban the console, but you might not get banned,,,,,  worse comes to worse if you do ever get banned, then keep that console for playing backups and get a cheap arcade for playing geniune copies on live.

Another option is to ebay the benq, and buy a hitachi  , tonnes of them on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Xbox-360-DVD-Drive-R...:1|293:1|294:50

or a nearly new one ! ! !

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/XBOX-360-HITACHI-LG-...:1|293:1|294:50

might buy that myself, you just never know !

Ok, I got JungleFlasher, Installed the Port IO32 thing. It shows up in device manager as working. I power my Hitachi through the 360 and SATA cable to my motherboard with an Intel ICH8R chipset. When I open JungleFlasher and go through the different IO Ports they all just show no drive detected.

I ended up putting my Hitachi drive into ModeB through the old two-wire trick. It then showed up in JungleFlasher in the drop down menu of drives detected in Windows and I was able to dump the firmware and retrieve the key.

Now I'm trying to load up the BenQ drive however it still just shows no drive detected on all the IO ports.

And what is activate.iso that came with the Firmware I got for the BenQ drive. I don't understand all the stealth stuff?

For the Benq read the JF tutorial. That will help you flash it as a spoofed Hitachi.

I read the BenQ section of the JungleFlasher tutorial. I found JungleFlasher really easy to use actually once I had the hitachi drive detected in Windows, I just can't get the drive to show up in Windows. All the Port IO selections just show no drive detected so I don't know which one to send the unlock to.

Download and install iPrep v006.2.
Look at the "SATA Info" box.
Select the device that you are using to flash from the drop-down box.
Click the "?" box to the right.
A message box should pop up.
To the right of where it says "DeviceIO", the first four digits are your port.

Sounds like Windows isnt seeing the drive. So Iprep isnt going to help.

I personally use Iprep to do my flashing cept for Hitachi drives. I run Windows 7 x64 so i dont have much of a choice.

So if I can't use JungleFlasher and I can't use iPrep, how do I get Windows to detect the drive?
