Ok, I have taken a lot of time reading many tutorials, forums, and help requested by others so I think I have a fairly decent idea of what I need to do to flash my liteon firmware. Also I should say I am fairly new to 360 hacking, but I have successfully softmodded many original xboxes and my wii.

I am not great with a solder so I will need to get some type of 3rd party accessory but I am not sure which will be best for me personally.

I have looked at the 360 Xtractor with the Spear, the Xecuter CK3 with probe, and I saw some other one, but i forget the name and it was only 20 dollars.

I looked extensively at both tools, and it seems that the ck3 has more posts with troubleshooting, but I'm not sure if thats a good thing or a bad (either lots of problems, or the people that use it just post there more than the other tool's page)

Before I go any further I will tell you what I am using to read/flash
My PC is running XP Pro SP3. I have a Via SATA 6421 pci card (don't have nforce mobo) and I have heard that using via sata cards causes Jungle Flasher to freeze and I will have to use dosflash to dump the key. I have only heard that with the ck3 tho, but is it the same if i am using the xtractor? Also, do i even need to use jungle flasher with the xtractor? I have also heard that it is a good idea to unhook the laser, is there tutorials for the DG-16D2S?

Please guys, I could use some info and advice on which tool would be best for my setup and which software should be used. Also I havn't seen any tutorials on flashing with iX1.6 for the Liteon using either of these tools and with a via sata (which possibly will freeze up in xp with JF apparently). Any info I could get would be greatly appreciated.

It is not the probe that causes the computer to freeze it is the actual lite-on drive. Read the jungleflasher tutorial, it will tell you how to set it up correctly. The laser thing is because some people had their lasers go out while flashing and beleive that it should be done(personally never had any trouble). On the probes it doesnt matter, they all do the same thing but i recomment the newest extractor as it has a button to extract the key to make it a little more user friendly

Personally, I avoid using JF. For some reason, it always freezes no matter what. I could probably find the mistake and fix it, but I'd rather use DosFlash because it's proven and it works flawlessly everytime. I extract the key using the Xtractor software, prep the CFW using either Firmtool or JF's embedded Firmtool(recommended). Then I prep the flash drive using iPrep and place the CFW in the root directory. After that, it's just a dosflash > 6 (my drive's located at 6) > and E > and W. <---all done!

IMO, the Lite-Ons are probably the hardest to brick because you can often erase and try again. I wouldn't make habit of that though. Just make sure that when you do go into Dosflash: your Drive is already unlocked and ready to go. I don't use the CK3 though, I use my own 360 to power the Drive and it works fine.

The other one you might have been thinking of is DIYGadget. There are usually a few 15% or 20% coupon codes floating around. I think there was an Xbox-Scene specific one if you search for it.

I used it myself and it worked fine. No need to spend a lot on something so straightforward (and paying more for the spear, etc.).

Oh, and I agree about using dosflash instead of JungleFlasher when erasing/flashing. JungleFlasher should be fine for getting the key and making the CFW.

and does it come with everything i need besides a com port?

done more reading on the usb xtractor

just a few questions now

1) will i have any freezing up in windows (xp pro 32 sp3) using a via sata 6421 pci card with this device?

2) will this device support dos (in case of freezing)?

3) if it may freeze or not work in dos, will using a 360Xtractor Pro v1.2 (PPTC Fuse) & spear do the same job while allowing the use of dos? If so, any good tutorials for doing so?

4) where is the best tutorial for flashing liteon firmware with iX1.6?

Yes for DIYGadget, but don't forget to buy the power adapter if you get the USB Xtractor. The DIYGadget kit comes with the power adapter, spear, and HDD adapter (don't know why, but it's a nice inclusion).

All of the tutorials and devices are basically the same. They should all work. It honestly depends more on your hardware whether or not JungleFlasher will work (mine worked for flashing 1.51, but then froze during 1.6, so it's all somewhat luck).

i just bought the "Xbox 360 Connectivity Kit V3 and USB Solderless Lite-on DVD Key Extractor Combo " for a total of 27 dollars
