Please can someone explain wtf they talking about! It says can boot without stealth....then says will still use stealth...

Before it was released I was under the impression that you would be able to boot all none patched and stealthed games with the use of the activate.iso

It's all pretty straight forward to me.

One shot boot SKIPS all normal stealth checks and will try to boot anything on the disk.  This may be useful here and there for various reasons, but for 99% of the users out there it probably should never be used.

How is it straight forward? Doesn't that statement contradicts itself? It says can boot without stealth checks and then it says still uses stealth?

So does the game need to be stealthed or not?

I think it means that the f/w will still be stealthed.

I think the description was rushed, so the grammar is off, but cmon, we all know what it means!

Translation:
1.6 will allow you to boot an unstealthed/newer wave game disc without the firmware doing any checks. Use the activate.iso supplied with the firmware pack each time you load one of these discs to bypass the checks.

It IS pretty straight forward...  rolleyes.gif

QUOTE
One shot boot mode allows you to boot a Wave X or non stealth game by using the activate.iso disk as a flag. Just insert the activate disc and the next disc inserted will boot without any strict checks. This will still utilise full stealth if available. As soon as that disc is booted the flag is cleared, and you will have to re-insert the activate disk again to enable one shot boot. As always use with caution.

What that says to me is that, after using the activate disk, iXtreme 1.6 firmware will boot the next disk that you put in regardless of whether it is properly stealth patched or not (whereas usually the firmware would not boot a game that is not properly stealth patched at all ever). However, if it is properly stealth patched then that stealth patching will still be used - it's not going to override it and make it as if you're playing a non-stealth patched disk. Also I would presume that even when playing a non-stealth patched disk, the firmware itself will still be stealth patched (the only other way to play a non-stealth patched disk would be to flash the drive with old Xtreme firmware, which will boot unpatched disks but is not stealth patched itself).
So in any case, there will always be some amount of stealth used. Makes sense to me!

I tried to boot one of my bad XB1 backups, first tring it on a CD, then on DVD+r (wasnt about to waste a DL for it), and both times I had no luck. Maybe it will only work for 360 titles?

I just got it to work thanks to bootmaker on the 1.6 thread:

1) you need to burn to a DL dvd using CloneCD

2) put activate disc in and run it

3) eject and put bad backup in (it will now be recognized) and run it.

Now, this is going to be a really, really dumb question, but does it have to be clony, or can a person use imgburn/diff. burning app?

Yer I just tried this with Clone & it worked fine. Put in a backup that i had from the early days (dont worry I tested it on a 360 that i never use as it gets E74 after about 5 mins), 1.6 refused to boot it. These are the steps I took.

Ejected Old Game (quake 4)

Placed the activate dvd in

Let it read for about 30 seconds, then ejected it

Placed quake 4 in and it booted fine.

Process seems to work well.

Thanks to THX.
