But much appreciated to all THX team members! my drive is updated!

pretty sad that these guys can't release the Hitachi firmware at the same time...

so how long do Hitachi drive owners have to wait for 1.6 firmware??

we had to wait 2 additional months for the 1.5 when it came out..

Do you know how different firmware revisions there are for the hitachi drives there is
CODE
32
36
40
46
47
58
59
4 versions of the 78
4 versions of the 79

So this is a few more that just lite-on, benq,hitachi and samsung, and if your so impatiant make your own firmware or even better just donate some money to them to help them out for the work that they did for free.

I've always used iprep + dosflash, which worked flawlessly with my P5Q-Deluxe (Intel P45 / ICH10R) based motherboard.. But now when I try to update to v1.6 the latest iprep 101 v008.8 Pro BETA version doesn't seem to support iXtreme 1.6? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

you need to update your iprep definitions in order for it to reconise the new firmware

where can one find the definition updates for iprep?

last month i flashed my benq w/ iprep v008.9 and ixtreme 1.51 and had no problems (i did have problems with v008.8 not loading the 1.51 firmware but then i found 008.9 and it worked flawlessly)

now im not planning on flashing my 360 to 1.6 just yet as i want to get a spare case so i can mod it w/ a sata connection so i wont have to open the box up again for future updates, but i tried loading the 1.6 firmware into iprep v008.9 and it game me the same "no valid firmware" pop up.

i liked the ease of using iprep, but would it just be easier/better to learn how to use jungle flasher since it seems like that program would have more support for future upgradability?

Thanks a lot C4EVA and THX crew! The new iXtreme 1.6 release is awesome! My Samsung is now updated.
I just needed to adequate the 12x drive speed to 5x to attend my needs. Everything is running flawlessly. I like a lower speed cause it is quieter and sets up a better disc reading factor. Some may think that is unsafe due ban risk at live; they might be right. Anyway, I've been very confident about my own experience with iXtreme 1.4 5x since it was released in decembre of 2007.

Now I'm just looking forward to instructions in how to use the new 0800 mode feature in order to dump the disc. Till now I didn't figure out a method and the right dump program to use.

thanks

Point One to cover: changing drive speed. This is taken right out of the readme that came with the FW

QUOTE
Strict drive speed compliance means games will only boot if drive is set for the initial speed of 12x, any modification of this make games fail to boot

Hopefully this will get people to STOP ASKING ABOUT CHANGING THE DRIVE SPEED!

2nd point to cover. A little searching in the 360 backup forums (yes, there are other sections of this forum then just this one) would have showen you that due to the nature on how the new built in 0800 ripping code works, a new ripping software has to be released. According to redline99, the new XBC is basicly done but needs more testing before it will be released. watch THAT forum for more info on this, not this one!

now just waiting for some more info regarding backing games w/ the new firmware to decide if i want to use 1.6 or get a kreon

well, I myself am waiting for the new XBC to be released before I make any more backups, just for the simple fact that, thus far, nobody has yet to directly answer the age-old question about proper ripping of SSv2 (the readme in the new FW states that the 0800 code in the FW supports it, but nobody has directly answered if kreon drives do or not).

as for making backups with the new fw, you need to wait for the release of the new XBC that supports the new code in the 1.6 fw. Last I heard from readline99, was that it is basically done, but it needs to be tested more to insure it is working properly.

For BenQ owners:

If you open the firmware in a hex editor, you'll find three locations which control the drive speeds:

0000BFB1
0000BFBD
0000BFC9

In the "official" 12x firmware, those values are as follows (0C = 12 in hexadecimal, 08 and 05 are obvious):

0000BFB1 = 0C (12x)
0000BFBD = 08 (8x)
0000BFC9 = 05 (5x)

The first location controls the max speed. The second and third locations specify fallback speeds. So in the iX1.6 firmware, the default is 12x, with fallback speeds of 8x and 5x. Now for the edited firmwares:

8x:

0000BFB1 = 08
0000BFBD = 08
0000BFC9 = 05

5x:

0000BFB1 = 05
0000BFBD = 05
0000BFC9 = 05

2x:

0000BFB1 = 02
0000BFBD = 02
0000BFC9 = 02

These are the identical drive speed settings that c4e himself included in iX1.41.
