We have completed a tutorial here to show you how to flash in Windows without pc freezing up.

Flash in Windows - no more freeze!!!.  

You can now flash your dvd drive in Windows and no more worries about pc freezes!  We have flashed many liteons, no freeze at all!


In this tutorial, we used the USB and the serial version of the key extractor.  The dvd power adapter used in the tutorial is the new version with power switch, but since the PC won't freeze up during the process, the DVD adapter w/o the power switch also works without any problem.

Here is the steps:

    * Install required drivers
    * Run JungleFlasher to get the key and dummy.bin file
    * Swap the VIA driver so it won't freeze your PC after you erase the firmware
    * Launch JungleFlasher to erase the firmware
    * Use JungleFlasher to write the hacked firmware

In JungleFlashers tutorial, it asks you to power cycle the dvd drive when you see the dots on the screen.    You don't need to do that anymore.  With the method we provided, you have plenty of time to power cycle the drive!

If you wish to try this method, please reply with the result, whether it works or not, so we can continue to tweak the details and benefit the whole community!

It's a misleading tut to say the least, they mention a "no-freeze" via driver to use, which, in fact is actually just uni-ata drivers renamed, they at least should give credit to uniata for that!

Sorry if it makes you feels that.  But we have received emails from customers asking how to flash in Windows without freeze pc.  So we wrote it.

Sorry.  We have just added that.  We renamed the file name just because it is easy to recognize on our download server and it is also easy to be recognized once you put in your drivers directory.

I did NOT see that thread.  You don't have to believe me, it doesn't matter.

Thanks for pointing out that thread, now we are thinking of developing a mobile mod kit, features a 6421 pcmcia card,  the key here is how to power the adapter.  of course cannot be from a computer.  The solution could be using a AC - Molex power adapter or a 12V DC transformer with a new DVD power adapter -> then converts 12v to 5V and 3.3v.  Cannot think of other good way to power it.

We have ordered a few different brands of the VT6421 pcmcia card, so will give them a try soon.

1.5.1 had a bug that screws with your serial data when you use the aplet to put it right.

hehe, I am not as smart as you :-) the pictures were taken with old junfleflasher.

Well, I believe you are not an engineer or never worked on any software development.  any new software has bugs usually takes a release or two get most bugs fixed.  If you have friends in fortune 500 companies, ask them how often they upgrade their software.

I am not saying that jf 1.56 is buggy, however just because we use old jf for the tutorials it doesn't mean we are noob.  Well, maybe in your mind.
