on a side note, yes, clarification is nice. their is a difference between a ROM and a DVD-ROM, just like there is a difference between a car and a ferrari. just because you know what you meant doesn't mean that everybody else knows what you meant.

It's kewl, I understand it's a last ditch attempt to be clever. Like people that point out grammar mistakes. We all know how everyone loves those types on the net. Wait, let me clarify so everyone knows what I mean... not the "net" you catch fish or falling people with but the "Internet". Just in case your still not 100% clear on what I mean here is a wikipedia link... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/jester.gif)

None the less it's perfectly fine to call your Ferrari a car.   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy.gif)

1. A0a2 Firmware, MFR: January,2009

2. This was a retail RE5 Limited Edition Xbox 360.

3. Jungleflasher latest beta.

4. Ck2 was used to power up my 360.

5. Yes I did ground my drive, via alligator clip.

6. I did not disconnect my laser, as the countless other liteons I did never had this problem.

7. There were no notable errors, my jungleflasher log looks normal.

8. Yes, originals worked totally fine before the mod, and after for a while.

9. I was not able to solve the bug.

Just as a sanity check:
Yes, DVD Movies played, for a while, till the laser died out completely.
Yes, an original game also worked, until the laser completely died.
NO, Burned games did not work, although my flash was successful.

My problem is extremely strange and highly unique (or so it seems). If we figure this out, it would be good. I just did another A0A2 the other day, March,2009 and it worked totally fine =/ so idk.

From what I've been reading it seems like only new 2009 consoles are the ones affected by this.

I agree with the majority and do not think that JF or any firmware flashing/updating has anything to do with it.

If you ask me, it's either end user error, or....get ready for this...maybe there's a quality issue with the actual drives themselves...perhaps a bad batch?  Maybe the guy in QA has been slacking (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

That was the point... you should get points, that's all you seem to do.

Makes perfect sense mate, cause I just did a March,2009 drive today and it worked totally fine, didn't disconnect the laser or anything. Those drives were probably bound to die at some point anyways and we just shortened their lifespan. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

I keep stumbling across posts with this bad laser after flash issue. It seems to be happening quite a bit now.
well, when i get a chance to update my liteon very soon im going to disconnect the laser first. Its very unlikly that it may happen to me seeing that it only happens to a few people out of the whole community, but i still dont fancy my chances. Better safe than sorry.

I have this exact same problem with my liteon (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I was flashing my aoa2 version that came with my refurb (date feb 09) and it gave the open tray message even with original games. I tried swapping pcbs hoping that might fix it but to no avail. I guess I need to buy a new laser...

The weird thing is I flashed my room mates liteon exactly the same way (xbox powered, jf to read and erase then dos to flash) and his worked fine. I guess it is only affecting the newer drives...maybe M$ made the laser suceptable to damage if the drive is flashed...

little update on my issue, i changed the laser and it didn't change anything so I am thinking there must be something wrong with my flash.

Got the same problem today.

1. A0a2 Firmware, MFR: Feb,2009

2. Brand new drive from Arcade version.

3. Jungleflasher 1.6b

4. tools from Diygadget.com

5. Yes I did ground my drive, put the drive on my PC

6. I did not disconnect my laser, have done many lite-ons

7. Jungleflasher freezed when erasing. ( it's normal to me, since I usually have to use Dosflash to erase and flash it)

8. Original worked fine before mod.

9. Tried to tweak the DVD pot, it suprised me that the reading was about 5.5k ohms before tweaking. After tweaking it to around 3.0k ohms, still not working. I gave up.

10. Did not read any backups, original copies, and DVDs.

I had this very same issue, and I fixed the issue by simply pushing my laser forward (toward the tray) as soon as i put the disk in! Once it read the disk, I never had the problem again. At least so far!

1st flash day of purchase of console 3 months ago:

- ck3 + probe, using jf. Flashed to ixtreme 1.51 all went well.
- worked for 3 months!

2nd flash 3 months later:

- ck3 (no probe needed had orignal firm simply spoofed to 1.6) + jf.
- all went well no hiccups!
- worked great for 1 day!

Problem:
- turned on next day and immediately got open tray issue
- already had a disk in tray from previous day.
- ejected disk.. put in same disk.. same problem!
- tried wave3 disk, and older disks just to check if its a media issue
- tried different type of media, have games on memorex, HP, and Verbs... still open tray issue on all.
- disk spins and stops very quickly as if not to recognize the disk has been inserted!

FIX:
- opened up box and drive
- hooked up everything and as soon as i put a disk in, I pushed the laser about half way toward
the front of the drive tray!
- the disk kept spinning and about 5 seconds passed and it began to read the disk.
- put box back together and started testing taking out disk and putting back in and all worked well.

THoughts:
- read another user talking about an issue with the laser moving to far back and not being
able to read the disk properly.
- seems for my situation this was exactly the case. Perhaps, it was just stuck, maybe
its slightly loose on the slider arms causing it to get lodged in a weird way?! I dunno
but that seemed to fix my issue and it has not happen again so far!

Just try after removing HDD or MU from console (or format storage). Works for me.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

I have flashed over 500 xbox and this problem happened to me twice.  First time it happened about a year ago. The same problem occured just a  two days ago.

Two days ago:
1) I don't have this info, I will add this later
2) First flash
3) Jungleflasher
4) Xtractor Pro
5) No
6) No
7) No
8) Yes
9) I swaped liteon for samsung ms28.

DVD movie works fine.
Original games works fine.
Backup games do not boot or give the dirty disk error after a few minutes.

My theory is that this problem happen when you reset your computer without turning off Xtractor (when the drive is connected). I always reset computer before flash and I turn on Xtractor a few seconds after the computer starts to work.

This problem is really annoying me. The drive key is fine, drive seems to be flashed ok but It does not play backups at all. DVD movies and original games work flawlessly. As far as I know nobody managed to fix this. The only one solution is to change the drive.

I have flashed about 200 liteon drives so this problem is rare. I am pretty sure that It has nothing to do with a drive version or even flashing process.
