Hello,
I have modded many BenQ drives before on 360's that come with them but that is easy however this is different. My friend had a hitachi drive crap out on him so I ordered him a BenQ figuring I can put it it and while i am at it load the iXtreme firmware into it. I know i have to extract the dvd key from the old drive however here is my question. When installing the iXtreme firmware originaly i never had to do anything with keys yet when you download the firmware and look at the key in "firmware tools" its all 7's.

When flashing did iprep take care of reading in the key for me and adding it to the modified firmware or was it just not needed?  

If not needed shouldn't I just be able to flash the new BenQ with the ixtreme and not worry about keys? And if it was needed I assume I have to get the key from the hitachi, get the original firmware from the BenQ, flash the benQ with its original firmware with the injected key and then after flash it with the iXtreme firmware, am I correct?

yes iprep would read the key and copy itself to ixtreme cfw before flashing.
and yes you need the hitachi key.
The motherboard expects a certain unique key string, no way around that.

So this is exactly what i'd need to do then? Also in iprep wont it automatically read the key of the benQ not my original key or if I inject the real key into the ixtreme firmware prior flashing instead of all the 7's will it use that instead of aquiring the key itself?

dump firmware from benq drive keep aside
you have the key from hitachi
open benq firmware up in firmware toolbox4.8 replace key with the hitachi key save this
now you need to spoof drive to read as hitachi
save this file and keep safe this is now your orig file for the benq
now you can proceed with iprep
by the way when you buy new drives they all have blank keys until you inject them

To all who care after research I figured out how to take any brand stock drive and replace it with a benq drive either using the original or the ixtreme firmware. The only pieces of software you need are jungleflasher and the slax iso if you originally had a hitachi drive. I used this guide

Though ran into some problems as far as getting the hitachi into mode B the way they said but the SLAX disc method worked perfectly. Also experienced the "Write verification failed" others have but yet the drive still works 100% fine like others have had happen. I plan on writing a guide when I get out of school in a couple weeks for all the others who I know have the same questions.
