Help With Liteon-jungleflasher Causes Reboot
« on: May 03, 2009, 12:05:00 PM »

Hi, I need help with modding a LiteOn drive, I have followed every tutorial to the tee. I followed the make your own probe guide found on http://xbox-experts.com/e/tutorial.php?n=flashyourliteonf, and http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/767988 I just tested the probe device at a friend's house who built it for me (he builds circuit boards for repeater radios, I know the problem isn't there.)

When I get to the "Get Key" phase and probe the Tx point while the drive is half-open, and the 3rd pin is removed because I am using the Xbox for power, my computer just reboots. Other than that, everything is running fine, JungleFlasher reads the com port, and SATA port and detects the LiteOn drive. Now here is where the problem might be, I am using a Dynex Serial-to-USB converter, as this computer does not have a COM port, I am also using a nForce 4 SATA chipset, but it detects it fine, and I've used it to flash a MS28 once before, so I'd assume that isn't the problem.

Any ideas? Where to start? Maybe just buy the VIA PCI chip? Or what?

Are you using com3 to read the key? Have you installed a driver that came with the serial to usb converter? It aint your chipset so dont buy a via card it wont make any difference.

Well, here's the weird thing, when I first used the converter it showed up under com3 and read as ready. Now it' showing up as Com4, maybe it matters which usb port it's in? And yes, I have installed the drivers that came with the converter, it seems to be working fine there.

What message does jungleflasher give when you try to read the key?

There is no message, it just instantly reboots my computer. That's the problem I'm having... My logic says that it is happening because of a short somewhere, but I have everything hooked up right, at least I am pretty sure I do.

Yeah, that's what I meant by Tx, R707, anyway.

Update! I got it to work!

I don't know exactly what cause it, but I was messing around with the homemade probe, and I just took all of the housings and heat shrink that we put around the wires, then I tried putting the usb converter into another usb port, and restarted JungleFlasher and it showed up under COM3 rather than COM4, and then it worked, plying with it right now! But I am not sure which thing fixed it, just thought I'd the topic on that note. Thanks for anyway for the ideas!
