Benq Problems
« on: April 29, 2009, 02:13:00 PM »

Alright, so my Benq stopped reading discs so I bought a replacement drive. It's exactly the same as my original (a Benq VAD6038).

I want to replace the original key onto the new drive so I can play games again.

I do not have a VIA SATA chipset, but I have an onboard SATA slot which I used to connect my Benq drive to my mobo. My computers hard drive runs off the other SATA port and here is my problem:
When I boot my computer with my XBOX 360 powering my Benq drive, it reads the drive and acknowledges my Benq but instead of loading windows, sits at a lovely black screen with a blinking text cursor. From here the computer doesn't seem to make any progress. All I can do is restart or turn my XBOX off and once it's off my computer boots into setup.

Basically, my XBOX cannot be read because I cannot load Windows with my Benq turned on. I have literally tried everything I could think of and have read many threads about this.

I read that with these newer methods you do not need a nForce or VIA chipset.

The only thing I could think of, is my computer is assuming both the Benq and my computers hard drive are masters. I would like to know if there's any simple explanation to this - I would rather not solder anything or buy anything else as I've reached my spending capacity.

Yeah, I believe mine is ICH6.

I've followed the tutorial and I still have a dead end because of one continuous problem.
No matter how I boot my Xbox while it's connected, it is not acknowledged unless I power it on with my computer. And if I do that, it freezes before windows can load (one of Windows boot precautions, I assume). I've put over 10 hours into just trying to flash it.

Could anyone provide me with the exact steps to have my computer read my drive?..I don't know why but perhaps if I formatted a hard drive that uses IDE rather than my SATA hdd. I know it reads it because I saw VAD6038 in setup under my second SATA port. Should this be enabled in setup?.. I have it enabled and when Windows tells me it couldn't locate the drive (xbox is turned off) I hit F1 to continue. It just won't show up on any of the flashing software even though the port is correct.

I'll have no problem using the flashing software but I cannot figure out why Jungle Flasher or any other tools don't detect my VAD6038. They all detect my SATA hdd.

I also do not know how to set it to Native or Legacy. I hope I provided enough information.

ANY help would be incredibly appreciated. I hope somebody has encountered a similar situation.

I have a Dell E3100 with stock everything excluding ram (lol, probably not necessary).
A reply, an email, or a pm, anything will do - I've been raging over this because I've been at it for so long.

You might want to ensure that the Benq is hooked up to the "0" Sata port as this is the port that is read first by the motherboard. I had a similar problem as this and I literally had to switch my HDD to the "1" Sata port and the drive to the primary ("0" Sata port). If you already have that set up then I would suggest that you boot up to the BIOS and ensure that the "Raid" driver is DISABLED as raid doesn't support flashing. Make sure that you go to your MSInfo under Sytem Tools--> Information --> Components --> Storage --> SCSI and write down your port address located under the first PnP Device across from the first I/O Port while noting the address located in the last 4 digits of that information example

0x0000DC04-0x0000B440
0x0000DC04-0x0000B440
0x0000DC04-0x0000B440            Jungle Flasher allows you to manually input the 4 characters
0x0000DC04-0x0000B440            which will point to the drive on the port used to flash the drive. That's
0x0000DC04-0x0000B440            why you need those 4 characters in the above information.
0x0000DC04-0x0000B440
IRQ Channel    IRQ 21

You will need this information to manually send request to your port address and flash sometimes. All you need to know are those 4 characters above in YOUR setup though. So follow the above and try that to see if you get any luck and post back your results.

My drive is still not being detected.
I installed a different hard drive to my computer using IDE rather than my other SATA one (was thinking it could have been the problem). No, nothing. My computer refuses to detect the drive.
Any recent tuts or posts you've come across regarding a similar situation I'd appreciate knowing about.
I'm stuck and am hoping someone will help.

Press ESC a few times the moment you power up your machine.  I think it's F10, F11, or F5 to enter the BIOS on a Dell computer.  It should say something like press F? to enter the system configuration.  You should look it up for what it is for yours.  Once you're in there turn off native SATA mode or enable legacy IDE/SATA mode.  Good luck!
