Ms28 - Problem Reading Key
« on: April 24, 2009, 02:57:00 AM »

iprep006 is what i use to do sammies
u need via drivers installed for this program and the portio uninstalled for this method
the bootable floppy when formatted in iprep has the mtk flash for unlocking drive anyway
dont see why you are having a problem getting the key if its in the firmware
obviously your drive was working well before
u dont have a copy of your orig firmware?
you are supposed to power cycle drive when reading and flashing drive
whats the size of the file when it reads supposed to be 256kb
sound like you know what you are doing in regards to programs but heres a link

Well the portio drivers were installed when I created my bootable flash drive using iprep 006.  I did change to the latest version of MKTflash after creating the bootable drive.  I assume that the bootable drive works fine since I am able to get connected to the drive and read a firmware from it.  The size of the OFW file is 256k

deffinately no extra copies, this is the first read from this box.  I thought the ms28 gave bad firmware data sometimes, and thats why you needed to use the 10 second trick?

this info you posted here looks like you trying to use dvdkey32 in jungleflasher to obtain key . this is for liteons only. for a samsung the firmware is read  and the key is contained within this.No dumping or reading keys.

OK thanks.  I just loaded one of the firwares I retrieved from iPrep into jungle flasher, I didn't realize you coudn't do this.

iPrep always give me an error message after reading from the drive, I can't remember exactly what it says but something about key info not found.

Should I not replace MKTflash after creating the bootable iprep flash drive?

sorry cant help you , the last time I used iprep was ages ago its really outdated if you got JF up and running than thats the way to go at the moment, thats what I use for all drives. If you still want to use iprep then thats fine whatever you feel comfortable with.

you dont read posts very well
i sent you a link to download JF tutorial and this has all the info on flashing your drive in JF all to easy
if you use the iprep 006 update ixdef1.5.1 file and prepare floppy and flash that way
i should have realised myself you were trying to extract the key like it was a liteon as turny said you just read firmware for this drive and key is obtained in the firmware
pay you to do some researching and reading if you tend to flash drives in the future it could end up a costly mistake if you dont know what you are doing

OK... I did read that tutorial many times... iPrep returns the error after reading the firmware using THE INSTRUCTIONS you are refering to.  The key is not being found, and there is an error returned along with RED text on the screen.

When firmtool checks the firmware for the key it is not being found.

Thanks.

I did try using JungleFlasher but it kept returning 00000000000's for the key, so I gave up on it.  Don't know, maybe the drive is no longer working, guess I need to get a 360 game to test with.

so you are just reading the firmware from the drive as per samsungms28 and getting a dump called SAM-OFW.bin file and you save this and when you open this up its showing a key with all zero's
if this is the case youre screwed sounds like someone loaded the ixtreme firmware and flashed your drive with that key which is of course is blank without your orig key its a dvd player
when you do take a dump what is it saying (ms281.5.1 12Xixtreme firmware or is it saying something else

So if you get iprep to read the firmware then it ALWAYS has the correct key?

When people talk about the 10 second method are they trying to get the firmware to read, or are they dumping a firmware with an invalid key?

I'm not sure what version the firmware says when its dumped, I'll check next time, but I have a feeling I have a paperweight.

the 10 secs is standard when using iprep to read firmware and flash its just part of the procedure
all i wanted to know is if you open Jf up load the firmware that u dumped from iprep or JF (the one that shows all 0's) into the source and see what it says about the firmware on the left
as for the correct key most programs whether its iprep/ dos or JF let you know if the key is correct or valid
normally will give you a warning

The drive was working as far as I know.

As I said in my first post, I wasn't the first to try and read the firmware, I guess he could have writen the original firmware back to the drive with the missing key information, but I doubt it...  He swears he only pressed read/sammy unlock/outro ATA-reset within JF.
