Hello People,

I have a Xbox360 from 2005 that I want to mod.
It have a Hitachi 3120 0047DJ DVD drive.
I use Windows XP (32 bit) and a VIA 6421 SATA PCI card.

The drive is in ModeB. Checked:

The drive opens after one second close, and I've to push 2 times to open/close tray.
So ModeB = ok!! (done with Slax CD and Mode_b16 (DOS based)
Both ways working to get it in ModeB (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

BUT:

If it's in ModeB, and I go to Windows XP (32 bit) then Windows won't detect my drive.
A yellow exclamation point is showing up in the device manager.
I get no drive letter. Error message (device don't start, code 10)
While Windows loading bar I open/close the tray several times.
(with and without original game in it)

I tried 4 computers (2 Compaq, 1 Fuji Siemens and 1 "custom made" computer)
None of them get my drive detected. As mentioned, I have a VIA SATA 6421 PCI card with 2 sockets.
Off course I tried both connections. In the past I did a lot of Xbox360's (piece of 15/20 or so!!). And all of them were done good. This one is a very special one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grr.gif) I don't believe it... Yesterday I was off from work and tried from 9:00 in the morning till 20:00 in the evening... NOTHING.... wow, I'm getting crazy here hahahaha...

Please, can someone help me on this?

Those seem like drivers problems..... use the latest windows SP 3 and some proper sata drivers and chipset ..and it should be ok  
THe drive is in mode b.... windows recongizes it but it doesnt have the proper drivers to install ....

Oh yeah and i recomend you stay away from via when your flashing a hitachi ...

Don't know if this will apply to your situation but sometimes to get them to show up with a drive letter you've got to click start right click computer, scroll down to manage then when it loads up click on storage -disk management and manually assign it a letter

I tried multiple drivers, but I don't get it working. As you said, I think I've to stay away from my VIA card...
Luckily I have also a computer with Intel P45 chipset and another computer with nvidia MCP55 chipset. But I can't find if they are compatible with the Hitachi 3120 DVD drive...

This morning I tried to do the job with the MCP55 chipset (which is working for BENQ) but with no luck!!

I thought because this was one of the first Xbox360's (from December 2005) it also was the easiest... but thats definitely wrong from me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)


It's a pity: I got 3 computers, with 3 other SATS chipsets (VIA 6421, Nvidia MCP55 and Intel P45) and with NONE of them I can do the job. Arrghh  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grr.gif)

if you seem to be having problems with JF this may be going back a step you could try this

and download off the usual place ixtreme 1.4 hitachi.rar maybe you can use flashix to flash
i take its a stock drive go straight to flashing as it automatically dumps(reads drive and creates the hacked firmware if its not stock use restore.bat to restore to original if you have this file
take out the fw pack and replace with the ixtreme1.5.1  47 hitachi file
havent tried this but looks like it will work dont see a reason why it wouldnt
should be able to plug into a sata on ur motherboard but you need to get into mode b as usual slax should be fine
if you read the tut its all self explanatory
if im wrong please someone correct me

What SATA card (chipset) should I use in combination with Flashix?

- Nvidia MCP55
- VIA 6421 (I think not!)
- Intel P45

from what the tut says bsically all sata chipsets because of it being an older version hitachi
as long as the sata cable goes to a sata port on the mobo
as i said havent tried it so guessing it will work
you have nothing to lose

FINALLY I got it working...  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I've used the on board SATA (connector 1*) from a Gitabyte P45-DS3 motherboard.
With the SLAX CD I put it in MODE_B
Then in Windows Vista 32 bit it showed up as drive "F"
With "flasix f 1234" in a DOS window I flashed the thing...

So what you say is very correct: stay away from VIA 6421 in combination with a Hitachi 3210 (0047DJ)
I won't flash with this combination ---> I tried 4 different computers!!!

p45 SATA chipset + Hitachi =  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/love.gif)

P.S. it took me SEVERAL hours to do the job, but finally its working
Thank God that the Xboxes before took MUCH less time (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)
