Benq With Ich7 Not Reading
« on: April 02, 2009, 01:49:00 AM »

Hi Guys,
I'm trying to read and then flash my BENQ with my ICH7 controller. Is this possible? I can't understand why only VIA or Nforce SATA controllers can work it out. For example if I turn on the BENQ and tart the PC in the boot section I can see the BENQ, so the controllers can identify the BENQ.

I'm using a USB floppy with DosFlash 1.6

It stays through x51 xd1 and it doesnt goes on reading.

any clue?

When you flash a benq with a intel chipset you need to install a switch and cutt two traces. Info If you wanna softmod the drive you will need a via or nforce chipset. Some people claim you can softmod a benq with a intel chipset but i never managed to get it working on my ich9.

DOS flash 32 under vista you mean? or with floppy? You say "took a while", you did something special? Which command line have you use (eg:dosflash r port number etc)?

it has been ages since I last touched my benq drive, and my memory is a lil hazy on how exactly I did it (drinking while flashing is not a good idea  blink.gif ) BUT I do know that in order to flash it, the way I did it, was in PURE DOS (I.E. boot from a floppy disk or pen drive (pen drive STRONGLY recommended)) and that you MUST cut the traces as shown from the link that ToBbErT posted for intel chipsets (I did it originally on ICH7, but it should work on ICH9 also).

I also remember having to fight with it during dumping/flashing. It involved having to put it into "normal" mode in order for dosflasher to find it, then in "recover" mode when doing the mode test for reading the fw properly and flashing properly.

Being that the benq drive is rather hard to brick (the ability to force the drive into recovery mode via cut traces) makes it a rather noob-friendly drive if you can solder. I know that when I first started working on mine I thought I bricked it (bad flash) but was able to recover it rather easily.

But without modding the BENQ? The error is "all-in-one flash utility has stop working" etc etc

I've done it both ways, pure DOS and Vista

Do you mean it won't launch...or it doesn't see the BenQ

I've asked you if you flash the BENQ WITHOUT cutting the traces. Regarding Jungle Flasher 1.55 beta it won't launch at all.

You don't need to open the BenQ drive at all.   Get Jungle Flasher to open and flashing the BenQ is pretty straightforward.
