Lite-on And Nforce4 Help!
« on: March 28, 2009, 03:08:00 PM »

Hi,

I am having major problems while trying to extract the key from my lite-on drive. My setup is:

- Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 Nforce4 motherboard w/ latest Nforce4 drivers
- Lite-on powered by 360
- MAX3232 based USB key extractor (DKU-5 based)
- Latest Jungle flasher
- Windows XP

The bios recognises the drive no problem. If I power the 360 with the drive connected, boot into windows and load jungle flasher I cannot detect the drive. If I connect it while in windows or after loading jungle flasher it tends to lock up.

I have spent quite a few hours on this and i've tried anything I can think of. Because I only have a USB based key extractor I can't use DOS based methods (I don't think). Has anyone else been in the same situation or have any suggestions?

If it just won't work, what is the cheapest thing to do to make it work?

Cheers!

Yea sounds like a port issue. Use a different port or IO Port setting!

Cheers for the replies - So you suggest plugging the drive into a different SATA port? how do I change IO port settings?

My HDD is on one of the SATA channels - Is that likely to cause any issues?

i didn't have any luck with my motherboard either, also an nforce4 chipset. i tried multiple sata ports and everything. Bios always saw the drive, but nothing in windows would detect it. i ended up just buying a via 6421 pci sata card from newegg (14 bucks or something) and it worked fine.

good luck! mine was hell!

It's nice to know that i'm not alone NotAok!

I find it wierd that it just works for some and doesn't work for others! I might look at buying a Via card....but i'd prefer it if I didn't have to - I live in New Zealand so parts are a little more pricey.

Anyone else have any ideas?

So I finally got it to work:

I took an old 10G HDD (out of an xbox 1) and installed Windows on it. I only installed the graphic card and network drivers - nothing related to the SATA.

Installed .net 2.0, PortIO and ran Jungle flasher. It picked up the drive straight away, no lockups and no issues at all.

I thought it may have been my SATA HDD drive, but I plugged that back in and it worked just fine - I suspect the only difference was not having Nvidia nForce drivers.

Cheers for everyone's help!
