Hitachi 59dj (1.4 Ixtreme 8x Speed) Failed To Make Original
« on: March 25, 2009, 10:08:00 AM »

Hello,

I have a friend for which I modified his Hitachi 59DJ some while ago from:

original to iXtreme 1.4

Now he wanted me to have it updated from 1.4 to 1.51.

He also brought the files:

59b_16-8.bin
key.bin
now.bin
was.bin

With toolbox 4.8 I opened now.bin and saw:

Hitachi-GDR3120L-0059 - [iXtreme :59BV1.4S-8x] with the key which starts with :

B62FB66..........

So I knew which restore.bat script to use.
When I put the drive into mode B, I checked the drive letter, and started the right restore.bat script (the one which came with Ixtreme 1.4 8x speed, but when I ran that one, I got the error with the 4 options why the restore failed.

So I tried to restore the drive to original with toolbox 4.8 :

1) I started toolbox 4.8
2) I opened the firmware was.bin (saw the same key)
3) Clicked on save key, just to be sure.
4) Clicked on Tools, direct drive flash, differential flash (patch), used classsic mode, clicked on read and detect differences, and saw 1 line, and clicked on start flashing, and saw an error that the address could not be verified (I cannot remember exact error).

Hmm, disconnected the drive, attached all cable and saw E64 error code. Hmmmmm, looks like drive is not original.

Then after that I took a brand new Samsung ms28 drive, and did the following:

1) Started toolbox 4.8
2) Opened was.bin and copied key
3) Opened samsung 1.51 ixtreme fw, paste key and saved key
4) Clicked on Tools, Spoof firmware, and selected Hitachi 59DJ drive.
5) Clicked "APPLY SPOOF".

When I opened the samsung 1.51 fw again in toolbox 4.8, I saw:

Samsung-TSH943A-ms28 - [iXtreme1.51-12X-]
** FIRMWARE SPOOFED AS GDR3120L-0059 **

Later with mtkflash , I wrote the firmware into the Samsung ms28 drive.

When I connected all cable, the Xbox360 booted into main menu, and I did not see an error anymore.
But when I tried to play original and ixtreme backups, I saw the message on the screen:

"To play this disc, put it in an Xbox 360 console."

Can somebody explain, what went wrong ?

Thanks a lot in advance.

The firmware is good, but I think that the xbox360 with hitachi 59dj drive, is not the same as I flashed before.
I asked him, if somebody could have exchanged the xbox360 for another one, but he could not imagine.

The firmware is the right one, because I kept a copy of the firmware, and was exactly the same, as the firmwares he brought with him.

Conclusion, it is another xbox 360 he brought with him, this time.

What do you think ?

By the way, the error restore.bat of post 1, was I think:

"ERROR: Hitachi DVD drive is NOT restoring..

WARNING: One of 4 things could be wrong

#1: Shut-down all your back-ground programs
#2: Windows is in-compatible, try SAFE MODE
#3: Your DVD drive is not a working version
#4: Start mode B with DVD disk in the drive

Hopefully you dumped the FW from his drive before you started flashing it, if not, it seems he's screwed. There's really no need to restore the drive before you upgrade it, it's basically just an extra step.

that was your mistake, you should have chosen the restore flash (the other option) I do not know which line was different that got patched, maybe the key? I suggest that you try reading the firmware on the hitachi, see if the key is "fff..." or something like that. If it is perhaps try flashing the original key back in, then if by some luck the key is right, try the drive in the box, or try the restore flash option...If the key is what you tried to flash in it, then perhaps you had the wrong key
As for the sammy, hopefully the key is right, that also suggests it could be the wrong key...

Today I checked the directory of the ixtreme 1.4 (8x), and I saw that at the time I executed restore.bat , there were the following files:

ver.bin
res.bin
test.bin

When I opened the 256 KB file test.bin , I indeed saw another key.

I cannot get the Hitachi 59dj drive into mode B, so need to use the Samsung ms28.

Keep you updated in minutes.

Flashed the samsung ms28 drive, which is working !!!

He brought another Xbox360, and will ask him how this could happen.
