Jungle Flasher 79 Unlock.
« on: March 23, 2009, 01:24:00 PM »

Trying to update a hitachi 79 from 1.4 to 1.51 using Jungle Flasher. I can get the drive in mode b but everytime I try to use the 79 unlock disk it says failed to pause etc in the little screen at the bottom. I've tried burning a new disk, tried using Port IO and Win API but it just wont unlock. I've already updated 2 Benq's without the slightest problem so can't understand what's happening. All I want to do is get the Firmware dumped and then I'm sure I'll get it going somehow possibly with firmware toolbox which is how I put the 1.4 on it the first place. Any suggestions would be gretaly appreciated.

You need to be in Mode B first before you unlock.  Try using the Mode_B.exe app.  Also, can you post up your JF log of when you try to put the drive in Mode B using JF?

What do you mean by it won't unlock? Do you mean you have tried to get the firmware in FirmWare Toolbox and it won't work (says to insert a DVD movie etc) or do you mean when you type "79unlock X" where X is the drive letter you get an error and NOT "done!"

I had this problem yesterday. It turns out it doesn't have to say "done!" to mean it's successful. For me instead of getting a "done!" message I got an error which said "CreateFile() failed 1117". Depending on your SATA chipset, you may get a done! reply or an error.

I was able to dump my f/w fine with getting that error (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif).

I'm using jungleflasher and that recognises the drive so yeah I suppose windows does recognise the drive. When I first flashed 1.4 onto it from a stock drive I used firmware toolbox with no problems at all. Now I'm using jungleflasher because it worked flawlessly upgrading 2 benq's from 1.4 to 1.51.

What I do is turn on xbox, open jungleflasher, go to the hitachi tab and make sure all the relevant options are set and put it into mode b using the send mode b button. It says mode b done in the box at the bottom and has the usual giveaways that it's in mode b like 2 presses of the eject button to open the tray etc.

Then it come to 79 unlock. I put the cd in the xbox tray, let it spin up for a bit at then press the 79 unlock button which is when It usually says it failed to pause it or play it. Sometimes it plays, ejects itself and when it closes it says ram upload failed. I've actually had it say done once or twice but when I try to dump the drive I get a file with no drive key. I've tried Port IO and WinAPI and neither works. The drive actually shows up under the bit where you can select drives but it never dumps and most of the time it all locks up.

I recently tried to even dump the drive just in Firmware Toolbox but this time after getting it in mode b successfully again using slax I couldn't get the 79 unlock to autoplay. The only difference from when I done it last time is that I now have Vista on my pc, I'm gonna try going back to xp and see what happens.

mode b done
make sure automatic is ticked above 79 unlock
now click 79unlock

I've now got xp on my pc and jungleflasher still doesnt work. I tried firmware toolbox and everything has went to plan until I have to open the command prompt on the 79 unlock folder and I get an error saying "79unlock is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file". I tried to dump the drive anyway cos it says in podgers tutorial it may give an error depending on chipsest but still no luck.

I really give up now, all I want to do is dump the firmware ffs.
