Can't Detect Lite-on Drive
« on: March 21, 2009, 07:03:00 PM »

I spent a lot of time trying to search for an answer and have gone through multiple tips I found online with no luck... so im posting on here.

I have an abit kn8 ultra motherboard with nforce4. I bought the ck3 kit with the com port cable. I have my liteon drive all hooked up and in my bios on startup the drive IS detected and listed... Problem is, when I load up cktool or xtractorreader it does NOT detect the liteon drive... So I can't go any further.

Has anyone had this issue and resolved it?? I've followed the tutorial exactly and have been plugging in the correct plugs and installing the correct apps/drivers where told to. I even tried unplugging all other devices so that the liteon drive was the only thing using a sata port on my motherboard.

I spent a few hours though trying to make this work... I need help (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I share and feel your pain man. I am having almost the SAME exact issue, the exception being that I can detect the hardware, but my PC is not recognizing COM3, so it cannot read the key. Everything else is working perfectly. But if you are using the CK3 to extract, you have to hook up the USB cable and use COM3.

I have been posting for days, and so far no one is knowledgeable enough to assist. Its just that no one knows how to resolve the issue. But rest assured, you are in the right place. There are tons of EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGEABLE PEOPLE on this board, and sooner or later, someone will hit the nail on the head for you.  You came to the right place.

I'm using this guide, http://team-xecuter.com/ck3/liteon_probe.htm

I've done everything up to the point of checking to see which port the drive is on. portio32 is installed. I've followed the guide exactly, read it multiple times, and am pretty positive my issue is something weird or different than the norm.

if you can try updating the sata drivers for the motherboard (if there are any) that would be a good first step. if that doesnt work try using the dos version of dvdkey. i had a somewhat similar problem. I couldn't detect the drive in windows to erase it (but its the same concept as detecting to read the key). Tried it with dos and it worked like a charm. Good luck

Edit: I've found that most problems pertaining to reading/flashing can be fixed by simply using dos, windows never really likes detecting the drives for me

Edit #2: Contrary to what the guy up there said. I would advise against jungle flasher. Its a great program when it works, but I've had nothing but problems using it. using the individual programs that JF has packed into it usually works better for me

finally, some help! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

But what about the ck kit and probe? I was under the assumption that this was required for the liteon drives? does this also work for running the apps in dos?

Can you point me in the direction for the correct guides i should be using? The ones i read over all involved using windows apps and i don't recall coming across a dos-based guide that also included the connectivity kit.

thanks

yeah u still use the ck3 probe in dos. dvdkey takes the command dvdkey sataport comport (or other way around not sure). i dont know about any tutorials to do it but its pretty simple. make a dos bootable flash drive or floppy and boot up with it. have all of the files in the main directory of the flash drive or floppy (IE. A: or C: or whatever letter) then run the dvdkey command

j did a liteon drive yesterday for the first time with a ck3 and probe and it went 100% sweet. i used the jungleflasher tuturial, read it thoroughly first including he apendix and then followed the instructions for liton drive and everthing worked perfectly, here is a link to the tuturial.

http://www.devilsps3.centelia.net/tutorial..._March_2009.pdf

If there is a link on the xb scene forums a couldn;t find it at the moment.
