Flashing Benq To 1.51 Issue
« on: March 21, 2009, 10:10:00 AM »

Hi!

I've flashed my drive 2 times in the past, to 1.4 and 1.5.
Now, i've wanted to update to 1.51, and Im using the same method.
Im booting on a Usb Stick on Dos Flash to do it. I got a VIA6421A
card. I've done exactly the same thing as the two last times, but this
time the drive cannot unlock itself with the Magic28 command. It always
say : Magic28 Command Failed. Note that the Box always go to sleep mode
just before the failed message appear, I dont know if it makes a sense at all...
What am I doing wrong? Do I have to power the xbox a bit after I start the
computer? I really want to flash it to 1.51.
Thx!

Trust me use jungle... Way easier!!
Although you will need to put it in vendor mode by openning the tray and powering it on with the tray half way. Then use Benq unlock and write flash as you would but remember to spoof the key into the hacked fw.

I would place original fw back on first and then apply hacked.

Thx for the answer. So I need to Open the tray, disconnect the power cable from the xbox (or the dvd drive?),  power the drive, use benq unlock and write the new firmware? Correct me if im wrong!

to be honest i didnt open the tray at all. i just clicked unlock. read . spoofed to target. save. then write (write did erase first then writes). i dont know if opening the tray does anthing or not.

I second this post.  I first flashed my Benq to 1.5, then 1.51.  I've always heard about this "1/2 tray open", but i didn't have to do it either time.  Successful flash 1st time, both times.  1st w/iPrep, 2nd time through JF, easy both times.

Well there you have it. Two good answers mate so get on it and good luck. By the way if it's a stock benQ like mine - the half tray open puts it in vendor mode. Cheers...
