Liteon Drive.. Can't Get The Key
« on: March 21, 2009, 07:53:00 AM »

Hello all

First:

I created a probe and a TTL convertor using this tutorial.
This is a newer version of the convertor. The older one had also how to build tx.
I built both to echo test. and it works great. I connected TX and RX together and open hypertermianl and I got everything that I write.

I opened the liteon drive. put it on an old falcon motherboard to power the drive.

Powered the drive using the eject button then disconnected the power plug from the drive  to the motherboard . Closed  the tray to half and reconnected the power to the drive. it stayed half open. Turn my computer on  and on the post screen I can see Liteon.
My sata card is on board Nforce sata.

Windows boots without any problem. Installed Portio32. Everything looks great so far.

Connected the probe to R707.
My sata Device IO is 09e0

Doskey32 09e0 1 -> 00000 key doesn't seems good.
Xtractor reader 2.7 -> finds the drive in the list and shows me the Device IO is 09e0 and when I am trying to get the key it gives me an error message that it can't extract the key and to check if the drive is half open.
JungleFlasher 2.6 -> I can find the drive from the list in DVDKEY32 tab. Connect the probe. And get key.
It runs and in the bottom log it shows me "Found Key- Doesn't seems good" and shows me the key and let me save the bin files and everything else.

I searched in the forums and someone wrote that he couldn't get the key also but he succeeded by opening the drive in this method:
Turn XBOX 360 on. Eject the drive. Close the drive : While it's closing remove its power. and connect the cable again.
In the post I can see the drive ,the drive stays half open but again. Same error codes.

Is there another way to half open the drive. I searched a lot but everyone is doing the same thing. A lot are using bought extractors. Something that I don't want to do. It's a fun project to build alone.

Maybe something is wrong with my Rs323 to TTL. Maybe I should use another NPN chip.?
I am using now t1p4ic NPN transistor. Maybe I should try another model? Maybe PNP. Dunno.

Will keep update... Waiting for your wise knowledge ..

Thanks

A little update

Dvdkey32 finds the key but doesn't seems to be good.
Xtractor same error.

I made the same thing yesterday following the same bunch of tutorials...

http://xbox-experts.com/e/pics/yaywoop/harder.jpg

this is a newer schematic and it calls for a PNP transistor instead of an NPN
i was reading somewhere that if you can read from your drive using the probe try the other type of transistor.
this is also yaywoops same tutorial except a little bit more updated

http://xbox-experts.com/e/tutorial.php?n=flashyourliteonf

ive used an PNP transistor on mine and also added the ability to power the drive and eject/power down the drive.  Ive tested it powering and what not on my sammy but I will be testing it to read my buddies liteon this afternoon.

will get back to ya....

Thanks for your reply.

I tried many ways but still it gets the key but fails to get the good one.

I found another NPN transistor. It is MjE3055T. I don't have my soldering iron at home I forgot it at work.
I will try tomorrow to replace the NPN transistor.. And I will update.

Thanks.

Any more suggestion would be great...

Sorry to bump my thread but I couldn't find the edit button.

Anyway. After googling. I found something very very interesting.

This guy suffers from the same error message as I.

*> Bad Key In Jungleflasher - Same Result In Dvdkey32

Now as you can see he is using TIP31A NPN and I am using NPN TIP41A.

I don't think it's a coincidence.
But I will be much smarter and sure will update if it resolves the issue.

I love when hope comes back...

Yes. I did it!!!!

The problem was the NPN transistor.

Who ever uses this brand replace it.!

It wouldn't work.

I changed it to EMJ3055t. Worked in the first time.
