Problems Flashing 0078fk Using Different Methods.
« on: March 16, 2009, 01:22:00 PM »

Hi guys,

First post here... I have an xbox360 and im trying to flash the dvd drive with the latest firmware! I have the xbox linked to my onboard sata port on K8V-MX mobo which has VIA chipset i believe. and the power supply is picked up from the xbox itself! I use .NET framework 3.0 xp media centre 2005. all drivers are up to date except graphics cuz the latest one dont like my pc. the board has 2 SATA ports and ive tried both with similar results. Raid is OFF.

Now I have managed to get the drive into modeb fine using jungleflash selecting the port and pressing mode b button. After restart the bios picks it up fine and the pc startes no problem, windows picks it up after a couple of presses of the eject button upon load up and it shows in my computer and device manager...

Now i go to firmware toolbox to dump the firmware that is on the drive at the moment to extract the key. When i open it up and press tools etc, it sees the drive fine if i press dump it tells me to insert a dvd/cd etc so i do and press the cd close button 3 times or the close button in the program i have tried both methods. The cd spins and as soon as i press the dump button it tells me it "cannot read from source" and the disc stops spinning! I have tried many different methods and timings to no avail. Im pretty sure once i manage to dump whats on there ill be fine to put new firmware on but its doing the dump.

Also i have noticed people say it should play music or dvd's or see xbox games as video files but when i put a disc in it sees nothing at all???? plays nothing at all???? If i go into my computer it just says please insert disc. If i remove it all from the pc the game/disc spins and the draw opens as normal etc

I have seen others who have managed to using my mobo so its not that that is the problem i dont think and the drive worked fine in the xbox when removed yesterday.

Can anyone suggest to me what i am doing wrong/missing/not doing etc ? i dont particularly want to put it back together till its been flashed so ill leave it as is for now....

Thanks guys!

Nibbzy

P.S. ive tried dumping using jungle flasher too that gives me a cannot read from source error yet the drive opens and closes fine using the open/close buttons in jungle flasher etc.

I am using the I/O port driver. What is Win API ive heard people use that instead and have less problems some times. how do i switch etc? just a thought.

update... I have VIA VT8237R on my mobo.... I dont suppose you know if it is compatible?

And WIN API didnt work either.....  PC now sees there is a disc in the drive but says its unaccesible and has corrupt data when i right click and press explore... the dvd plays fine in the xbox along with the games.
